wow we figured we could get a cheaper deal for our #6 pick originally based on how Jake Long's deal was structured, apparently not... doesn't mcfadden essentially make more here? I thought Long's deal was a 6 year 57 million with 21 garunteed? and Ryan's contract is outrageous a 6 year 70 million with like 29 garunteed or something? if the rates keep going up per pick, Gholston will be getting like a 6 year 100 million dollar deal with 57 garunteed or something, these top rookies are getting more money than perrenial superstars. rediculous

the NFL needs a rookie limit saying the top pick can't have more than a 35-40 million dollar deal. over 6 years. otherwise all hell will break loose in the near future as teams can't afford to keep their stars because they suck and picked in the top 5 3 years in a row, so the big money starts to kick in and they have to toss their stars cuz their underachieving rookies make 5 times as much, and they can't cut them....

I think Bill Parcells is a friggin' genius.

"Chris, Matt, Jake, Glenn, Vernon: Here's the contract. Here's my telephone number. The first person to call me and accept the terms gets to be the number 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft. Good day."

Granted, Tuna had the "luxury" of having a need at every position on his team, but man, what a great way to sign a player under prime. Not to razz on the Raiders, but I really believe that unless you trade the pick, the number 1 overall team is almost obligated to sign their pick before the draft. It just seems like good business. I mean, if you were Al Davis, wouldn't you be kicking youself for not picking up Calvin Johnson last year? Or maybe Thomas? What say you, Jeaux?

Jamarcus Russell, 9'9", 400 lbs, can throw the ball the speed of light, 2.1 40 yd dash vs Calvin Johnson? You gots to be kidding me. They are inducting Russell, Robert Gallery and Darren McFadden into the HoF in August.

I agree that you'd like to have the guy signed ahead of time like Parcells did. But if the Raiders think Russell could be their Elway for the next dozen years, and clearly they do think that, why should they regret not picking Johnson, etc.? The holdout torpedoed his rookie year, but it didn't torpedo his career.

Personally I'm sick of the Raiders always settling for 30 something year old retreads at QB. I'd still take Russell in a heartbeat over the best WR available, etc.

How much money did Denver have invested in their offensive line when they were throwing money at Elway and Terrell Davis? Or the Niners in the Bobb McKittrick era?

Jamarcus Russell going to throw for 1000 yards against Jets in 2008 and Darrelle Revis going to give up 9 touchdowns to Jamarcus Russell strongest arm in universe. Al Davis going to rub dirty adult diaper on Jamarcus Russell super rocket arm for luck before game.

Whats your point? Cuz you clearly missed mine your paying 4 rbs and 2 fbs more than your paying ur entire o line. Thats like paying your managers less than your normal employees.

You missed my point. The Niners paid the big money to the skill positions because McKittrick's zone blocking scheme let them coach up a good offensive line out of cheaper players. The same with Alex Gibbs and the Broncos. That's been the idea in Oakland since they hired Tom Cable last year.

And surely when you say the rbs and fbs are making more that's a little skewed by mcFadden's deal isn't it? None of their other rbs or fbs are making crazy money.

I know you are just joking, but I actually read a report that said Russell was struggling on deep throws, short and off target. I find it hard to believe them to be short, off target, maybe.

I agree though, alot of money tossed at rookies any more.

your still not getting my point theres a difference between paying skill players and having 3 big contrcts at rb (mcfadden, jordan, fargas) and fb justin griffith.

I don't think Griffith and Fargas's deals are considered unreasonable, but they are possible in part because of the offensive line philosophy I mentioned earlier. And I think everyone knows Jordan will be gone very soon.

NO You have a chance to get a franchise QB, you can't pass it up. You hit on that franchise qb, and your probably a playoff team, for the life of that franchise QB career.

If Raiders had to do the draft over, jamarcus Russell would still be the pick.
