I guess that you are a Young supporter. Who cares how he throws the ball. People that dont like him say that he throws the ball weird so he wont make it in the NFL, which is dumber then shit. But he isnt like Gannon he is more like Culpepper good arm, big, strong, runs well. That being said with our talent I would pass on Young, Culpepper looked good with Moss but like crap when he left. I'm not sure how Young is going to look when he is being chase by Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney, Derrick Burgess, or the fact that the DE & LB are stronger and faster then he is. I not sold on Young but I wouldnt freak if we picked him I just dont really like the idea.
You can't argue with success. Young = success. Again, he beat Leinart in pass efficiency, total offense, virtually every major award, and, oh yeah, the national championship game. Some of you will remain Vince-haters no matter how well he does in the NFL. And he will do well. The people who don't believe it are the ones who are closing their eyes and ears and shaking their heads in denial of the things he does. They probably didn't like Vince from the beginning and somehow just cannot admit that they were proven wrong, time and time again. You could take all the negative comments made on this board about VY and replace them with comments made on the Ohio State board before the game this past September. Exactly the same arguments were made. They said he would get killed by the Ohio State defense. And VY shut them up. The same comments were made on the USC forums before the Rose Bowl. Pete Carroll's defense would confuse and stifle Young. Yet he shut them up. Those of you who doubt VY right now...he will shut you up as well.
I very much agree with the whole college offence thing that u guys are saying. When i said that in other forums i was booed but its true, Vince wont survive the transition to pro imo. He wont get the explosive breakout runs that he got in college. Ill be watchin him closely though id like to see how he turns out
As far as the Rose Bowl, im just going to say he had a phenomenal performance against a horrible defense
He also beat the guy a lot of you would rather draft with the #4 pick - AJ Hawk. That game - Ohio State - is in some ways more impressive than even the Rose Bowl. Ohio State had one of the best defenses in the country, and Vince beat them with his arm and his legs. He ran like crazy in the first quarter, forcing Ohio State to sell out to stop the run. He then beat them the rest of the way with the pass, throwing for 270 yards including the game winner. That game shows more than any other that Vince Young can and will be a force in the NFL. The NFL has never seen a QB who can pass and run equally as well as Young.
Your completely right he beat Ohio State on the road in a hostile environment, I have no argument against that. I just dont like the gamble/risk associated with him. I wouldnt call Vince Young the greatest QB prospect the NFL has seen. Lets calm down he's great and all but I still havent seen anyone have Vince over that QB guy he beat in the Rose Bowl
The problem is he won't shed tackles from LB's and defensive linemen in the pro's like he did in college. His 4.58 was good considering he never prepared. When it comes to being a leader and having something about him, he has it, but his decision making is quite lax (his staying in "family" with his agent is killing him so far, the wonderlic, then the 40, next up probably his rookie contract..etc) I would die if we draft Cutler, he's not a 1st round guy. I'd still be somewhat pissed if we took Young for two reasons. With our situation it makes much more sense to wait and see what happens then waste another roster spot, pick, and money on a QB now especially considering we have bigger needs, and secondly, Young is basically a boom or bust prospect. And in that sense he's likely either going to be a gigantic boom or a massive bust. Our pick this year would be better spent on someone else at a different position. Also, Young probably will be gone before our pick anyway. I still say we end up with Ferguson, Williams as an outside possibility, or a trade down (I say this happens if Ferguson is gone).
All 3 QB's coming out our question marks. Most of the people knocking Young are basing it on their own prejudice that he is a dumb, run first QB based on seeing him in one or two games and one test score. Most people who love Lienart are basing it on the fact he plays in a pro style set and looks real good. The fact that in virtually every game he plays he has the better player at every position, his recievers get more seperation, he gets more time in the pocket to make decissions and the need for real zip against college DB's isn't nearly as important as it is in the pro game, doesn't really get analyzed as far as his pro potential. Cutler gets praise based on rumors about his workouts and combine. Pretty much none of us have really seen him perform great at any time in his college career. This really is going to come down to teams doing their homework. Most of us have no idea if these guys are capable of making all the throws, how quick they are in making reads and reacting properly or their ability to lead. I?m pretty sure the guys breaking down tape at the Jets HC have a solid gripe on analyzing all 3 QB?s. They also have to analyze them against what they think they have in Ramsey and decide if Williams, D?brick, Hawk or someone else should be taken ahead of any of the 3 QB?s. The one great thing is that none of us or any of the other teams has any idea what the Jets are really thinking. That gives us some leverage come draft day. It should be pretty interesting to see what we actually do.
Wow. Half of the plays in the video were running plays. We know he can run. What happens when he gets hurt in the NFL like Vick did? I used to think Young was better but he's not near as good as Leinart will be in the league. Although, he can probably be drafted higher than Cutler.
problem is, none of these players have won a ring with the excepton of Randle El who played as a wr. Taking Young at 4 is to much of a gamble with all the holes the jets have right now. We need to fill a spot on our roster with a talented player who will actually play right away. Leinert is a much safer pick, but he would have to fall for us to even consider him.
does anyone know what Cutler got on the wonderlic? I know Leinart got a 35... and what about the rest of the QBs in this years draft?
If we take Vince Young at #4 it would be the worst pick since we rafted Blair Thomas. I would explain why he wont do well for the 17346th time but the VY fans still dont listen.
His mechanics may be similar, but are his decision making skills as good as Gannon's were? Doubt it. He's too prone to pulling down the ball and taking off with it rather than letting a play develop. He will playing agains better, faster players that will be able to bring him down easier. He's got potential, but he's a project and I wouldn't risk a #4 on him.
Do remember, while he ran a 4.58, this is a 6'5'' 240 guy running a 4.58. It is not the 5'10'' Michael Vick, or some other 5'10'' RB. The guy is a motherload to be running a 4.58. And, a 4.58 at the QB posistion is insane. If he were a WR you can "maybe" frown down upon it, but not from a 240 LB QB. HTH.
No kidding? Next you'll tell us about how dumb Pete Carroll is and how inept he is as a defensive minded head coach who is wholly incapable of making in-game adjustments with his "horrible" defensive squad which played virtually no role whatsoever in the minor winning streak that the Trojans put together before VY brought it all to an end. Blah-de-frikkin-blah.
