That's true, and I wasn't even thinking about their past but you're right. I don't think that will happen though, I have confidence in Tangini. By the way remember Blair Thomas was the highest rated RB in the draft loaded with RBs - in hind sight it was a terrible pick. Remember Emmit Smith went #19 I think - fell right into JJ's lap in Dallas.....
This is true also but it's a risk. I just don't think Leinart is all he's cut out to be. Maybe I'm wrong and if the Jets pick him - I better be wrong......it would really set the franchise back
You guys are right, i added Blair in there b/c i could nt think of anyone, but your right he was the top rated guy but a bust..... hindsight is always 20/20. Its always a risk drafting a QB high b/c if it doesnt work out u set your franchise back 3-4 years. There are good and bad things to say about Lienart, Young and Cutler. but watching college football i think Lienart is the best passer out of the three, young is a better athlete but in terms of getting the ball where it needs to be, i'd have to go w/ Lienart . But keep in mind this is coming from a guy who thought coming out of college that Ryan Leaf would be better than Peyton Manning so what the hell do i know???
Matt Leinart is for sure the more polished pocket passer of any QB in this entire draft. His "weakness" has been blown up WAY too much on the Jets boards due to Penny's arm... Matt's arm is stronger than Penny's arm even before Chad hurt his shoulder. Matt has amazing accuracy, poise, leadership and smarts to be a fantastic football player. If a trade with the Saints is available like this article says...I want the Jets to take advantage of the oppurtunity...
Alot of people did and that right there is why I would be hesitant to take any of these QB's this year. Each one is better at one aspect of the game than the others. There is no complete blue chip QB IMHO this year in fact I think the Jets are better off waiting until the 3rd round and taking a flyer on a guy like Whitehurst. At #4 I think Williams is can't miss, Bush is can't miss (assuming he's still there which he won't be although he may have a shorter shelf life due to size), Hawk is can't miss, Ferguson is almost a can't miss, and then you have players a little further down who are probably can't miss like Mangold and Davis the TE but you can't take those guys at #4. I look for Tangini to get more value out of their picks than past Jets administrations....
Based on the Jets Draft history i dont want them even thinking of a TE (Brady, Becht...need i say more). if they stay at #4 and they are not drafting a QB then D'brick is probably the safest bet with Williams right behind, although i dont think Williams will be there if Saints keep #2.
It won't happen. It looks like we will move up to #2 and pick Leinart. While I am not upset by this move I think that we could have stayed at 4 and picked a defensive stud and still filled other needs. I can only hope that we don't give up too much for the #2 pick. Maybe tangini will offer a player instead of multiple picks. Can anyone say Robertsonand a pick?
PennyandtheJets, you've made it clear you'd like Leinart in the draft. Leinart may very well prove to be a good NFL QB. However that's a big time franchise gamble to pick him up at #4, let alone trading down for him. top rated QB's are usually the biggest position to flop, especially when they come out of championship schools. Mario is the best choice, Dbrick the second, trading down the third. Trading up is ludicrous IMO. Take a gamble on a QB like Omar Jacobs with the 3rd round compensatory pick. if he doesn't work out, try it again next yr. pennington and ramsey hopefully can be adequate with the right cast around them.
If it's any consolation, you look like an offensive jack-ass almost all the time lately. We get it, you'd suck Leinart's, Mangini's, and Tannenbaum's dick if you think that would help get Leinart in a Jets uniform. No need to bash people over the head with your thoughts are better than anyone else's that disagrees. Fine you want to trade up to #2 and take Leinart, but that's probably the least likely thing to happen out of the stuff and wishes that get spouted out around here and the web/media. As far as if we moved up to #2 and didn't take Leinart or a QB which would mean every Jets fan would be pissed, well that's just what you think. And it really doesn't matter does it? Fans don't run a team. The guys that are paid to do that are the one's who get to make the decisions. Why? It's their job, it's their background.
ps: Anyone who can't spell OPPORTUNITY is stupid. I'm not defending whoever you disagreed with before, this was all to point out don't act like your acting, it's really...just plain pointless, ignorant, and rude to other member's.
You should probably chill out. I have said a million times to people like you that I am not that gung-ho about moving to #2. If we wind up staying at #4 I am still going to be happy. So your childish comment at the beginning is far worse then me telling someone their opinion was just a dumb as someone elses. I don't get into arguements with people like you so this is my last post on the matter.
'Stuck' with Young? Oh man.. Wouldn't that be a catastrophe! We get stuck with the Rose Bowl MVP and Qb with the best rating in the country... That sure would suck... Let's stay at four and get whoever drops... Who knows, maybe it goes Bush, Williams, Young and we get Leinart at 4.. That'd be pretty schweeeet!
I used the word stuck because alot of people are in the belief that if we stay at 4 Mario will be there. I have no problem with vince young, but you can agree with me that he is a bit of a risk.
Penny and the Jets, if human duiplication were possible I assume your dream draft would be: Number 4: Matt Leinart Number 29: Matt Leinart Number 35: Matt Leinart Number 71: Matt Leinart Number 102: Matt Leinart I assume storing up these "extra Leinarts" would be the best thing to do because by trading up to get him in the real draft you are throwing away any realistic chance of rebuilding in other areas of the roster that urgently require it. Like, for instance, the O Line....thus you'll need the extra Leinarts because one will get injured fairly quickly (probably the first game), thus needing to be replaced by Matt Mark 2, who will also get steamrolled at some stage, probably dislocating his neck or something, and thus needing to be replaced by Matt Mark 3. And so on. At seasons end (or probably half way through it) there will probably be 5 injured Leinarts on the roster. Or then maybe not as I just made that up. In reality there would be one injured Leinart on the Jets team.....throwing away picks lower down to get Leinart higher up is insanity of the highest order. About as insane as drafting 5 Leinarts if they were available.
I agree with this, we are in the drivers seat if we want to move up. It sounds like Tenn is content to sit at 3 and take who is left between Leinart and Young. If thats the case we are the only team that make sense for NO to trade with, still gauranteeing them there choice of Brick and Mario while picking up a couple extra mid round picks..I would think if we offered our 3rd and one of our 4th, No would make that trade..
If they're going to take the same guy at 2 or at 4, it's clearly better for them to take him at 4, to save some money... Would anyone be unhappy if we traded our 3rd to move up to 2? Even though that makes sense for both teams, I assume NO would get skewered in the press if they did that... Heck, we should trade up to 2 and take Mario Williams...
