A Boston newspaper is reporting Bill Belichick cheated in a game against the Browns in 2001. A Boston Globe story www.boston.com reported that former Patriots employee Matt Walsh will turn over eight stolen videotapes to the NFL that show the Patriots videotaping signals of opposing teams. One of the games was against the Browns on Dec. 9, in Foxboro, Mass. The Patriots won, 27-16. The story does not indicate whether Belichick stole offensive or defensive signals. If they were offensive signals, the taping -- against NFL rules -- would have benefited the team's defensive coordinator. At the time, it was Romeo Crennel. Crennel has steadfastly refused to be drawn into any discussion about Belichick's videotaping practices while he worked for him with New England. Nobody in the NFL wants to step forward and blow the whistle on Belichick. I have talked to at least two prominent people in the NFL who say Belichick has been "cheating" his whole NFL career and it goes back to his days as Browns coach. The only question I have is how come it didn't work as well back then? from the ' cleveland plain dealer'......:shit: it raises one interesting question: after his stint in clevelnad, he was the jets defensive coordinator. did he do it while he worked for us and did the tuna know about it, if he did? ditto mangini?
And the sad part is he will likely get away with the little slap on the wrist from last season. Oh well... Can stay optimistic. :gpc:
I wonder how much Walsh got paid to lose the Super bowl tape? For the last 4 months he had it and now all of a sudden he doesn't. Sounds Fishy, no wait I mean Patsy.
he sure is looking like a fool for not producing that superbowl walk through. and they asked the question today on the radio, why would he do this and not have the tape? why would his law firm let him do this if he didnt have the tape. the post prior to mine might just make a little sense, 1 million to this guy to shut up or another mill and a draft pick to the nfl? could be, im no conspriracy theorist but it wouldnt surprise me.
you guys know this is bullshit right. i mean, i hope the Jets kick the patriots ass every time they play, but this is a sad attempt at tarnishing a great coach.
rite...and the NFL just docked their first rounder with out any evidence. Goodell is the man of opinions and if one's opinion is that Belishit cheated, then he will punish the coach. NFL does'nt care if that coach has built his own legacy. All it cares is what your opinion is.... Im sorry my friend luckiestman, but things dont work that way. 'sad attempt at tarnishing a great coach'? more like 'a sad attempt to BECOME a great coach'. While all this is sad, and I feel sad too, for some reason, it brought a smile to my face. You know why? Cuz now Belishit is always going to be remembered as a coach that 'cheated' to win super bowls instead of a coach that 'won' super bowl. Anything that hurts NEs image will bring a smile to my face. Im sure there are others on this board that are that way too. Mr. Walsh can now suck up to the Pats and NFL. He f'ing got sold. It was'nt even close to a mil. What is a mil worth to those that spend over $150 mil a yr on the team? less than a percent. Im thinking it was a huge amount. It would have to be somewhere with in an 8 digit number. Im sure he got paid more than what Brady makes a yr. Also, Mangini knew about his pu$$y moves. Else he would'nt have pulled the trigger. Im thinking he was not involved in it. otherwise, yet again, he would'nt have pulled the trigger. If Romeo is refusing to be involved in any discussion, it clearly means he knew about it too. If nothing was happening, he would have said so publicly to save the integrity of himself, his x-head coach, his x-team and his x-owner. Matt Walsh, take those tapes out of your *** and put the dirty tapes on Goodell desk...!!!
wish i had a copy of the rules that beli said had a 'gray' area. beli argued the rules only forbid stealing signs to gain an advantage in the game being played, with no mention of stealing signs to gain an advantage in 'future' games. im not arguing for beli (im glad spygate cost the pats jake long) but id love to read the actual rules so i can form my own opinion.
Of course they were being used in the game being played. Signals are changed from game to game. The problem is, NOBODY in the NFL wants this to go any further. Nobody. Not , Goodell, not woody Johnson, no one. It is very bad for the game. No one is going to step forward and say. "Oh yeah, we broke down the signals, and by half time we had the entire game plan" It would have to be somebody on the CS. They would never work in the NFL again.
Aren't the Pats paying for his (Walsh) legal fee's? That'll explain the "mysterious disappearance" of the tape.
I really don't remember him actually saying he had the walk through tape. Its out there and someone has it, just not him. Thats possible. Plus, the Pats aren't paying the legal bill, I think its the NFL.
I posted this on another thread on the same topic: Here's why you can't count on the NFL to regulate itself: It, like the Pats, has a vested interest in saying "nothing new here." The commish, his lackey spokesman Greg Aiello, and many of the owners primarily want to protect the NFL as a business. That is why they would love it if everyone "moved on" and forgot about this. Think about this in another context. Would anyone here think it would be a good idea for McDonald's, for example, to be the only entity to assess punishments against one of its franchises for illicit behavior? Of course not, because it would be transparently clear that the company would be primarily concerned with protecting its brand. That's why Specter is getting involved. He knows the fix is in if he doesn't keep on this issue. All of you who are saying "nothing's new here" need to stop drinking the NFL/Belly Kool-Aid. Do you accept similar spin from politicians when they try to cover up their misdeeds? I hope not. There IS something new here. Walsh HANDED them to the NFL; they are the tapes that further document the extent of the Pats' cheating, including in the playoffs. TBTF
Bellicheat is a God Damned disgrace. Every Superbowl win he has coached is now called into question. They won them from last minute kicks! Those games were so close, having this ill begotten knowledge of the opposition is what helped eek out those wins.* If the so-called fans of this team, a team Bellicheat has turned into a mockery, had any respect for this franchise -- they would run him out of town. Yet they are in such a deep state of denial, they are actually supporting a convicted cheater! It is their team, and any self respecting Patriots fan with half a brain would want that fucking crook off the helm.
just to add some facts to this debate.... 1. Page 105 of the Game Operations manual: "No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." It later says: "All video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead." 2. A memo from Ray Anderson, NFL head of football operations, to head coaches and GMs on Sept. 6, 2006 said: "Video taping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent?s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches? booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game." So you can see that taping signals is not against the rules. It's a matter of location, and a matter of not using the tapes for the game at hand. So if the Pats were taping signals from the endzone box, or upper press box, and just using them for future games then it is legal. Now I know people argue that they did, in fact, use the tapes for the games at hand. Maybe they did, but where is the proof? NFL officials monitor locker rooms, and clubhouse activities use to prevent this sort of thing, among other things. Maybe the Pats are not nearly as sinister as the media is making them out to be. I hate the Pats as much as the next guy, but I think the media has overblown this situation and it's been further dragged along by a politician who has other interests at heart.
Ok no one is disputing they broke a taping location rule. My point is that many in the media, and on message boards act like they did this horrible thing by taping signals. That it is "cheating" to tape signals. That's simply not the case. Taping signals is permitted, it's simply an issue of where the taping takes place and when the tapes are used. No question the Pats broke the where the taping takes place rule, but it's not like they did some horrible act like many many are portraying. So are you saying that if they tape the signals from the sidelines they are some horrid cheaters that should be banned (general sentiment from a lot, I'm not saying you think that) and tarnished for all eternity, but if they taped the exact same thing from an approved location that everything is cool?
