I know several people question our depth at safety. The Bears just released him, likely because of salary issues. If he signed on more cheaply, should we be interested? His play fell off last season, but he could be a good short term help. http://nationalpost.pa-sportsticker.com/default.aspx?s=nfl-news-display&nid=A162689831210113926A Bears release S Archuleta PA SportsTicker Published: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 After not getting what they paid for, the Chicago Bears have cut ties with Adam Archuleta. The NFL's highest-paid safety last season, Archuleta was released by the Bears on Tuesday. Archuleta, who made $5.098 million last season, endured one disappointing campaign with the Bears. The 5-11, 215-pounder played in 15 games, registering 61 tackles, two sacks and an interception. Selected 20th overall by the St. Louis Rams in 2001, Archuleta spent his first five seasons in St. Louis before playing one campaign with the Washington Redskins. Archuleta, 30, has collected 530 tackles, 18 sacks and four interceptions in 103 career games. His sacks are the most for a safety since 2001.
He is my favorite non-Jet player in this league. They called him "The Human Missle" at AZ State. He hits like a truck, and was very good for the Rams. He didn't fit well in the systems in Washington and Chicago... I don't know if he would fit in New York, but if the Jets sign him...I'm getting his jersey.
favorite non jet player also idc if hes slower and cant cover kid is the great white hype not to mention hes banging some playboy broad those two attributes mean he is sure to fit into our defense well
um, well, we need a SS... so he sure wouldnt hurt for cheapness... bring him in. I love this guy, not my favorite non Jet but still one of my favorite guys out there...
archuleta is terrible. There is no way we should sign him. He is not fast and can't cover. He played pretty well in St. Louis, but not that well.. he had aeneus williams backing him up at fs, leaving him to really play up in the box for the most part. He could hit, but couldnt do much else. Id personally prefer someone a little bit more versatile.. I couldnt believe the bears agreed to take his contract last year.. that must have been one of the worst moves last offseason (other than giving away thomas jones to us)... as you can tell.. the chi-town FO is not too smart. It's not about not fitting a system.. its more about just being not good.... in addition: he got his payday and his production went down dramatically! Not exactly what you want in a 'mangini' type player.. 10-foot-pole.
It WAS the system. He is a linebacker playing safety. When the Rams used him as in the box safety, he was great. He is a liability in coverage, but if someone signs him and lets him go after the quarterback, and cover tight ends and RBs out of the backfield, he'll be effective again. Wherever he goes, he needs to play IN THE BOX.
no way, my one roommate is a bears fan, he was stoked when they got him, said he fit their system perfectly. But and i lost count of the times during the season i heard "F'n archuleta you F'n piece!"
hasn't been the player he was with the rams since he left... maybe someone we could have in run support, but i'm not making him a big part of the Defense.. he is on the decline.
He played special teams on the Bears, because he actually didn't fit their system...so your buddy must've been yelling at the wrong guy.
Exactly. He is on the decline, but he can still hit like a truck, and he's great in run support...but that's about all he has to offer now. He knows how to get to the QB also.
hes banging some playboy broad those two attributes mean he is sure to fit into our defense well[/QUOTE] how r u not on espn
