Jets | Pennington still may return in 2006 Tue, 21 Feb 2006 06:03:07 -0800 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets QB Chad Pennington apparently is agreeable to taking a pay cut to remain with the team. However, agent Tom Condon has taken a hard line. The quarterback, who has been asked to take an $8 million pay cut, is scheduled to earn $9 million next season. The Jets want to chop his base salary to $1 million and give him a chance to recoup his money in incentives. "Condon doesn't want to lose that $8 million," one agent said. "He would be embarrassed. It wouldn't look good when he goes on the recruiting trail. I think it's more about that than Chad." The Jets must make a decision by Mar. 3, when Pennington is due a $3 million roster bonus. Pennington, however, appears to have few options, who wants a sore-armed quarterback coming off two rotator cuff surgeries? At this point it would be surprising if he didn't reach a middle ground with the club and return. Jets | Team not interested in Collins Tue, 21 Feb 2006 06:01:25 -0800 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports a source familiar with the New York Jets' thinking, said the team is not interested in Oakland Raiders QB Kerry Collins, who may be released by the Raiders. Jets | Team likes Ferguson at No. 4 Tue, 21 Feb 2006 06:01:00 -0800 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets may try to trade down from the No. 4 slot in the NFL Draft so they can select Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler. However, if they remain at No. 4 they are expected to select Virginia OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Seahawks | Clayton expects Alexander to stay in Seattle
I'm willing to bet if we trade out of the 4 to say 8 or 9 somwhere around there, someone jumps us for Cutler... It's almost guaranteed to happen. Ellis
any idea how much these cuts would save? seeing sowell on that list kinda surprises me. also cutting the left side of our OL really leaves us no time to "groom" anyone. oh well.....guess were drafting OL the first 3 rounds if we cut mawae also.
Thats exactly the reason we just need to take him at 4.. If he gets past the Jets there will be teams lining up to get in the 5-7 range to take him.
I don't want him at all... wait till next year to get a QB, rather than chance getting him hurt this year. After we finish 3-13, we can take Brady Quinn next year. Ellis
I would rather drop a few spots hope for Cutler and if he is gone, go LenDale White(would be tremendous if still there) or Deangelo Williams. Although at 4, I like AJ Hawk, I know we have HUGE holes on O, but I like Hawk, especially if we go to the 3-4.
i dont understand why we are gonna release sowell either.. i just dont get it. hes been a decent fb..
"I'm willing to bet if we trade out of the 4 to say 8 or 9 somwhere around there, someone jumps us for Cutler... It's almost guaranteed to happen." Ellis There is no doubt that will happen if we trade out of four. That is the problem with drafting Cutler at four. He is not worth it there and it would be a reach either way you look at it. Oak could pick him, Det, Ari, or the Fins could trade up and snag him. With all this hype surrounding him someone is going to buy into that and jump all over him. But as a consolation prize I'll easily take Lendale White. I think Brick and White would be way better than Cutler. Good to know they will cut Fabini. He is played so bad its not even funny. No real suprises there except Mawae's name wasnt up there.
They aren't into D'Angelo Williams at all. That's some nonsense that people on this site are dissullioned with.
GB will be kicking themselves if they pass on Mario Williams. I think he'll be DROY if he stays healthy.
GB has a fair amount of holes as well. I could see them go D in a lot of spots or OL as well. I would be ok with White at 4 actually, although I am sure the FO would get crushed for it. If we do drop to 8-9, and Bush, Leinart, Young, Brick, White, D Williams, Cutler are gone, I will happily take Hawk, Mario Williams, Maroney (maybe), even Huff at 8/9.
O line I doubt that we draft O line in the first two rounds. If Penny is Gone, we Go For Cutler or a decent QB. We trade out of the number 4 to say Arizona's spot pick up an extra pick and player in that spot. We can address O line later with our numerous Comp picks .Remember Ryan Young? Even Adrian Jones was a 4th rounder. I dont see why wwe would draft a RT with our second round pick. Also i dont know if we have a 6th rounder since we traded for that Player OL from Green Bay. Lets not raft a RB Curtis is good for at least two more years, Curtis Houston and Co are better and cheaper than getting Lendale or Deangelo. With our comps we can address OL.
