I really liked the Robertson pick at the time. I thought the Askew pick was good, that he'd be a good role player. I was disgusted with the Hobson pick. I wanted Anquan Boldin. He was selected by Arizona one pick after Hobson. All the other picks did nothing for me.
count the number of guys bradway drafted that went to the pro bowl while playing for the jets--only you would defend his draft of 2003
I hated Dslob pick from day 1 - nobody is worth trading 2 1st round pick away. Boobway did just that. I'd give that draft F-; I think I'm very generous with that assessment though. *I'm not giving "Sucked Moosecock" assessment, if anything!*
and that is exactly why there is nothing more meaningless then giving grades out immediately after the draft.
When I think of grades that implies a test with correct and incorrect answers. The Pats should get all A's because they had the answers before the test and apparently most of the teachers did give them straight A's. I like to think of Mangini as sitting next to Parcells and Bellicheat hopefully stealing a couple of correct answers and moving us from the typical D that Bradway would get to a C + B-. In the FA test I think Mangini and Tannenbaum were sitting next to Dan Snyder. Hopefully the combination works out very well for us.
Considering we had the 13th and 22nd picks and Ty Warren went 13 and Willis McGahee went 23rd, not very good
D rob and Hobson did start multiple years for the team...and frankly, d rob solidified a position we couldnt seem to get right for years. Still alot of ugly names listed there. C-
If you just take the players for what they are, and disregard the fact that none of them are currently Jets, then the draft doesn't look too bad. Robertson has not lived up to the hype of being #4 overall, but he is a solid player, and should perform at a high level (depending on surrounding talent, it could be ala 2004) in a new system this year. Hobson was a decent starter for a number of years, and I look for him to thrive in a limited role in NE this year. Askew is an excellent FB at this point in his career. He actually ended up developing into a very good lead blocker- something nobody expected on draft day.... Bollinger is a decent backup QB, and now has enough starting experience to be valuable as a journeyman backup for years to come. That's pretty much all you can ask out of a 5th rounder.... Overall, we drafted some good talent. We just failed to utilize it, or retain it. I'd give the draft a C+ as far as talent acquired. I'd give the draft a big fat F as far as getting the best value out of these players
That is why same day draft analysis means absolutely nothing, in 4 short years no players remain, that equals F.
Very difficult to rate this draft because with any coaching and FO change comes a change in philosophy and ideas. I guess a lot of these guys proved they didn't fit the new direction. I still like the path we are on.
