#72 Mike Pearson | OT Roster: Full Name: Michael Wayne Pearson Born: August 22, 1980 Tampa, FL Height: 6-7 Weight: 297 lbs. Age: 25 Pos: OT Experience: 4 years College: Florida Drafted: Year:2002 Round:2 Pick:8, Jaguars 2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 70 | Key Alert: I Comment: He is a much better pass blocker than run blocker right now. He is a finesse player - needs to learn to play more nasty, tough and physical. He shows excellent initial quickness out of his stance. Can set quickly in the passing game. He shows good foot quickness and lateral slide ability. He plays with good balance and body control. Good overall use of hands but he does not have heavy hands. He gives solid effort to get downfield and find blocks. He does not have very good anchor ability - gets walked back vs. power DE's. He is a finesse run blocker. He does not play with good leverage and struggles to get movement at the POA.
Full Name: Michael Wayne Pearson Born: August 22, 1980 Tampa, FL Height: 6-7 Weight: 297 lbs. Age: 25 Pos: OT Experience: 4 years College: Florida Drafted: Year:2002 Round:2 Pick:8, Jaguars Grade 70 (Graded as a "good starter") Expert's Take Pearson has ideal height for the position and can add more weight to his frame. He is a very good athlete and moves well. He has very quick feet and decent running ability. He takes a quick first step and good angles to his blocks. He does an excellent job with cut-off blocks on the backside of plays and shows up as a blocker downfield. He has good balance, a strong base and adequate lateral movement. He sets up quickly in pass protection and shows the ability to reset his feet to handle the rush. He has long arms and can force an edge rusher to take a wide angle around the quarterback. He has patience as a pass protector and uses his hands well to lock on. He is more of a finesse blocker than a power blocker and lacks the strength to knock people off the ball. He is a better pass protector than run blocker and tends to narrow his base. He also lacks good leverage in the run game. He has difficulty anchoring versus a powerful bull rush and lacks the overall strength and toughness to be a dominant blocker at the point of attack. He needs to improve both his bulk and strength. However, he is a very good athlete at the offensive tackle position. Sounds a lot like Adrian Jones. I wouldnt complain about having 2 athletic tackles. IMO that is a premium now in the NFL. It is a passing league and defenses attack from the edges. Could point to Super Mario at #4 or a trade up for Leinart if we get him. We'll need 2 athletic tackles to protect him or Ramsey/pennington. All classic drop back guys that need good protection.
I think this would be an excellent signing, and would shy the staff away from D'Brickashaw. We need depth as well as starters. He's a solid pass protector, and he lost his job because he was hurt all season and Khalif Barnes (the same type of player except younger) was drafted to replace him anyway. Plus he's a Florida boy.
Pearson is considered a very solid LT. He became expendable in Jax due to the emergence of the younger and cheaper Khalif Barnes. He would be a great signing and would be able to play either OT spot for us.
First I'm hearing of this guy. sounds like a great fit though. former starter, great height, potential and age. Arian Jones is still raw, and you can never have enough starting caliber Tackles.
Unless we're planning on zone blocking (which neither Schottenheimer or Mangini will try to do), then we won't do that. You can't have two tackles under 300 lbs. playing weight.
Yes but you have to realize that every scouting report I have read says that Bricks frame can easily hold 15-20 more lbs. The team can ask him to beef up.
Sure he was injured? Because whoever was playing LT looked like $hit, and got replaced by Kalif Barnes early in the season after Leftwich was getting pounded.
Im not totally sold on Pearson, but at the right price, I can see it as a good move. Its always good to have starting caliber depth on the OL.
Hey, I don't know about you guys. But I'm concerned that this guy lost 5 pounds between post #2 and post #4.
