Read this on ESPN website. Wondering what we could get for AJ. Would only consider it if the Jets were going to draft Ferguson. "Having bolstered their defense with the additions of end John Abraham and safeties Lawyer Milloy and Chris Crocker, the Atlanta Falcons may soon turn their attention to the offensive side of the ball, and to their most desperate need there, a new starting left tackle." -ESPN NFL
That wouldn't make any sense. You don't trade young, inexpensive players like Jones. Despite assertions about his size, most people's only concern about Jones inability to play right tackle stems from his early struggles at the position. I think that's rather misguided. The guy has only played tackle on any level for three years now, and he needed time to adjust. I am fully confident that should we decide that D'Brick is the best option, AJ will make a smooth transition to the right side. I personally don't think that's the direction we're headed, but it wouldn't surprise me either. In the meantime we shouldn't go trading young players for draft picks, which are always overvalued against proven commodities. -X-
Not advocating doing the deal, just trying to bring something fresh to the board, X. I like AJ and think he did a great job last year, especially when factoring in that it was his first year, and the defenses had no respect for any of our QBs.
If either of the teams were interested in trading or inquiring AJ, then it would have come to fruition when the teams were negotiating the Abe deal. Can't criticize your ingenuity though.
I know we're divided about this, and granted you make a good point about him only playing limited time at tackle, right or left. However if he truely could handle right tackle, then he wouldn't have flourished on the left side against speed rushers. He really just doesn't have the bulk to drive people of of the lanes and let the fullback move in especailly against 280-300 pound left ends. Hence why most right tackles are usually 310+.
If we have to deal with another trade with the Falcons, I am going to beat on my pecker with a hammer until it turns purple.
We could not do this trade unless Ferg was already ours... the Saints still have a high probability of taking him.
Incorrect. He's not a good enough run blocker to be a young, inexpensive RT. He's athletic and a very good pass blocker but he's lacking in size and run blocking ability.
This thread is the exact reason many of us question the selection of Ferguson. Why is Jones good enough to be the Falcons LT but not our own?
I meant LT, it was a typo. Jones is a solid LT, and CANT play RT, that's why we shouldn't take D'Brick.
