I understand you're all excited about the potential of McFadden, but we do not need him. Thomas Jones will have a solid YPC with our new and improved offensive line, and Leon Washington is a excellent complement. Chatman is a very good third back as well. I agree that we need a feature back for the future, but we can nab one of those in the mid rounds. Think about this- when was the last time a Super Bowl champ had a running back that was considered one of the premier ones at his position? Jamal Lewis on the 2000 Ravens, maybe? All you need from your RB is consistent and solid production. An LT or AP is nice, but we have other holes to address at positions which are harder to find. Trust me, guys... we will be happy we didn't pick McFadden, even if he goes on to have a successful career.
I tend to agree with you. RB is the least of our worries and I'm sure that the FO/CS know this . But with all the draft hype and hysteria, fans believe that kind of stuff. I'm pretty grounded, but won't be dissapointed if we do draft him.
Agreed, very sensible post, I like Gholston, or trade down for more picks/depth.......:shit::shit:
I disagree, Jones is 30 years old and running behind that shoddy line last year certainly took a toll on his body. While I think Leon is a playmaker and has a spot on this team no matter what, he's never gonna be that every down player. McFadden gives this team a player that scares opposing defenses and would make every facet of the offense better, making it especially easier on whoever lines up under center. No, I don't think he will be as effective as Peterson but he doesn't need to be to a key player for this team. That being said, I unfortunately think the Raiders are set on McFadden and barring a trade up will not be wearing green and white next year.
Good point that Jones is 30, but he hasn't been carrying the load as much as other 30 year old running backs have. I think he has the legs of a 27 year old because the Bears didn't make them their primary back until late in his career. I really feel like he'll have a solid season this year and maybe next with the line we've put together.
Your right no insults necessay but I am so sick of the safe pick we need some excitement during these times and we finally get or maybe get an opportuntiy to draft a possible great pick. Bust or not, let's be the team that everyone is talking about. For at least taking a chance!
Drafting for Present & Future I tend to agree with you that RB isn't our biggest need but if DMAC is there @ 6 can we pass his potential up? Not only will we get a play maker that I think certainly will help us now and allow Leon to focus on the return game but its hard to say how long Jones will be able to carry the load @ 30. I like the idea of teaming DMAC with Jones. It improves Jones and Leon's longevity! But... if the Raiders are gonna snag DMAC with the 4th pick I'm unsure if it's a good idea to give up draft picks to move up. Maybe switch with the Falcons (since they want Ryan & he would probably be there @ 6) if the asking price is extremely low.
I've been quietly fumimg over that. I told Floridason - "you can only have a pic of my wife if you promise never to show anyone else". Kid just didn't listen...
I agree and think Jones could be our best offensive weapon right now especially behind an improved line, but even though he hasn't been beat up as much as other RBs his age doesn't mean age won't begin to take its toll over the next couple of years. McFadden is a rare talent and I really can't see the Jets having an opportunity to draft such a talent in the next couple of years (Ideally we'l have the 32nd pick next year :up. The moves in free agency have given us the flexibility to take a player that can make a huge impact right now, and there's no question that McFadden is that guy.
Maybe, but so what? Then we'll find one in the 4th round of the 2009 draft. We will get solid production in 2008 from our current crop of RB's and that is what matters to me. I don't really look towards the future with the RB position like I do with pretty much every position. History shows it's very easy to find a productive RB and/or put together a tandem that will be productive enough. Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw speak to that. Hell, in 2006, we made the playoffs with 6th round pick Cedric Houston as our primary back and fourth round rookie Leon Washington complimenting him. Those guys got the job done, probably in large part due to the solid offensive line we had that year.
