or at least gholston....... i have posted on these boards since the beginning of the year about gholston being the guy at 6 but believe me folks i think long is the better package, especially for the jets. with the fish taking the other long at one, the rams are in the seat and they hold ALL the cards. the phones and speculation will be hot today and tomorrow at the top of the draft and i do feel the jets NEED to make a move for long - at least make a serious attempt to get to #2. obviously it would be a mega deal which would mirror the giants/chargers trade of QB's a few years ago but the last i checked the giants got the better of that one didn't they. the jets were very efficient last year with revis and harris. the quantity of picks is a trap. we need quality and long fits it well. IMO we need a stud DE and plugging long into the LDE spot will do wonders for the DL. if we just cannot go to #2 for whatever reason than we stay put and do NOT chase gholston or even the RB. i know a lot of people are drooling over DMC and i have warmed up to picking him but i am not fully on board with the idea - especially moving higher to get him. so my plan would be to pull out all stops and get chris long....and if that is impossible - sit tight at six and hope for gholston/mcfadden to be there. if they are gone i am out at six and need to move out of the spot maybe with the ravens and panthers. if the jets need to trade out it would be looked at as a dissapointment, IMO enjoy folks, jil
The latest talk on Long is that he doesn't project well in a 3-4, either at DE or OLB. He is much better suited to the 4-3.
I think you and I are thinking the same thing here. Chris Long is by far the player that i want. If there is no way to get him then i agree you sit tight and at least see who falls to you. Gholston on the other hand i am not sold on. Sure he looks the part but the more i read about him and the more i hear about him i feel like the risk factor is too high with him. I hope the raiders take him. Best case scenario if none of those three are there we trade down with someone who wants Ryan and pick up a different DE.
I agree. 2 questions. One I think he can go inside, next to Harris making Barton the odd man out. (remembering that A:we have Jenkins at the nose, and B:OL blocks inside first, which helps maximize Bryan Thomas on the outside as well...) your thoughts? 2. If the Rams take Dorsey, would it be worthwhile to ship Pennington to ATL (and there would be additional give and take to make that even...but thats another matter), for a swap in order to get Long, and then try to get Flacco to come in behind Clemens...? (For Atl, they would be looking at a proven Vet, and Matt Ryan at 6...Hardly a losing proposition for them...)
They would have to be sure they got the QB they wanted before they shipped Pennington anywhere. Unfortunately if they did that they would probably take Ryan and not Long anyway.
Atlanta already has Joey Harrington and Chris Redman on the roster. While neither is as good as Pennington, they fill the role of proven veterans. They are also a lot cheaper than Chad's contract, so he's just not a fit in Atlanta.
I agree 100% Do what we can to get Long and if we don't, sit back and, IMO, look to trade out (if Ghloston and McFadden are gone) to acquire an extra 1st day pick. God knows we could use it. P.S. If we draft Ryan I'm gonna lose my shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way should we be trading up to 2 where the Rams will be taking Long. Either Gholston, McFadden or Ryan will be there at 6 and taking whichever one is available at 6 is exactly what we will be doing. If DMC and Ryan are both there we take the RB hands down. We really really need that #36 pick to get the best LB or CB on the board...losing that pick by trading up to get Long would be an incredibly poor strategy.
I have a feeling of the top 5/6 guys in the draft, we will be stuck with a decision between Glen Dorsey or Matt Ryan. If that's the case, trade is all i can hope for. As has been reiterated a million times, i'd be happy with either long, ghol or dmc.
Long & Gholston are 4-3 ends Imo. I'm all about Mcfadden or trading down, Gholston is a pass rush specialist with motivation questions??? I don't want that. And Long is a tweener OLB/DE in the 3-4. I hope both of them are gone.
I agree with what everyone is saying in this thread: Hope for Long, sit for Mcfadden and Gholston. I would take one of the three. If not take a few extra picks and move down.
Love the passion of this thread. "Give me Chris Long or give me death!...but I'll take Gholston, too." Tannenbaum is working the master draft mojo to get Chris Long right now. He wants him, I'm certain of it. That's why we seem desperate to get Matt Ryan, desperate to get McFadden. They're looking at three major options, in order of craftiness: 1) We convince St. Louis that we absolutely love Matt Ryan, and that we need to trade up to #2 to draft him. If this happens, whoopsie, we're picking Chris Long! 2) We convince Atlanta that we absolutely love Darren McFadden, and that we need to trade up ahead of Oakland to secure him. If this happens, whoopsie, we're picking Chris Long! 3) We convince all top five teams that Chris Long is undersized, that Vernon Gholston, Darren McFadden and Matt Ryan are the true gems of this draft. St. Louis picks Gholston, Atlanta takes Dorsey, Davis picks up McFadden, the Ravens trade with KC to pick up Matt Ryan and BAM! the true gem falls to us at 6! If this happens, Mike Tannenbaum is the smartest man alive!
lol that would be funny and I would love it in a way BUT I feel we cant afford to use our picks to move up in the 1st round for anyone.
Thread titles are hitting an all-time high! Haha, brothermoose (the artist formerly known as NJJets), Patrick Henry, you beat me. Too bad the draft didn't go down on March 23rd.
