Outside of Thomas Jones trade, have the J-E-T-S ever made out. Maybe it's me always wanting more or to win. But, It appears the J-E-T-S get the short end of the stick in a trade most of the time. I think they gave up a lot in the trades last year, but Revis and Harris play has made that equal so far. Trade up for D-drob, way too much. Trade up for Moss- too much Trade Moss for Coles - (Moss was a lot better than Coles at the time.) They didn't want to pay Moss. Then when Coles got here, what did they have to do first. Pay him. Trade for jolley - way too much (Just horrible. Top ten worst in history). Herm to K.C- way way too little. Bradway friendship with peterson cost them Vilma to saints- way, way too little D-rob to broncos,- too little. Just hope they get a good return on the 6th pick. Any more?
Two first rounders for Martin -- awesome! Keyshawn for 2 #1's -- necessary Abraham for #1 -- necessary and working out
I think you're wrong about most of those, to be fair. I'll give you D-Rob, Jolley and possibly the trade up for Moss. The rest were even or possibly slightly in our favour.
Why do you think the Jones trade was good? We swapped 2nd round picks (ours was #6) and then had to give him a big contract. Now we are probably going to draft a RB in the first round a year later. What was good about that?
How about moving up to draft Revis? How about moving up to draft Harris? I don't think you have to go back any further than last year's draft to find good draft trades. Granted, our draft last year was short on quantity, but to find two solid - and possibly exceptional - defensive starters in the same draft is something I can live with. While we gave up picks, I don't think Revis or Harris would have been available where we were scheduled to draft. Mike
Vilma could work out very much in our favor if he meets/exceeds the goals listed in the contract. The same goes for D-slob...
About a million things... 1. We needed a starting RB. 2. We got a high character starting RB. 3. A high character starting RB that complimented the one good RB we already had perfectly. 4. "Big contract?" He got 20 million over 4 years, only 12 of it guaranteed. 5. We STILL had a second round pick that allowed us to get who we wanted.
See, this is why they call people like you a dark-sider. D-Rob, probably not the best deal. Trade up for moss, 4th and a 6th to trade up 3 spots. Not terrible, IMO. Moss for Coles was a fair trade, maybe tilted towards us. I don't know where you get that Moss was a lot better than Coles at the time. Coles was coming off a 950 yd season catching passes from Patrick Ramsey. Moss was coming off a 850 yd season catching passes from Pennington. Jolley trade was bad. Herm trade was good. We were going to fire him anyway. Vilma trade is going to end up being a 2nd rounder. That's decent. D-Rob trade is going to end up being a 2nd rounder as well. Again, decent. Thomas Jones trade was a steal. We also got a future 2nd from the Redskins to move down. C-Mart for a 1st and 3rd, Keyshawn to the Bucs for 2 #1's also wer very good deals. Honestly, we've done pretty well. Our FO thought Jolley and D-Rob were better than they were. Had they panned out, we'd probably be singing their praises right now.
Da Jets Neva Make Out Das Why We Suk!!! Harris, Revis, and Jones hurt us because of 4-12. I can't believe no one factored in 4-12 for Revis, Harris, and Jones. '07 was one of the single worst seasons in NFL, nay, SPORTS history. Rod2 I like your analysis too...I don't think the Jets have ever gotten fair value in a trade. '09 picks for a DOMINANT 4-3 MLB with a messed up knee and two mediocre seasons in a row? They couldn't get us a second this year? '09 picks for a DOMINANT 4-3 DT with messed up knees and a big contract? Seriously? We couldn't get at least a third? A 4th for an NFL HC we were going to fire? Seriously? A NFL HC should net at least a first, maybe a couple firsts...this is Herm Edwards we're talking here.
Moving down in the second round of 2006 with the redskins to pick up a 2nd in 2007 and kellen clemens. I think we had pretty good value there. Besides the value from a "trade value chart" perspective (ot however you are determining value) is irrelevant and frankly pretty stupid, if the players you trade for play well then it worked out. Since Tannenbaum has been our GM I think it would be tough to argue with most of his decisions. Both Harris and Revis have shown that they are probably 2 out of the 3 best players on our defense, so who cares if by conventional standards we gave up slightly more than we were supposed to. The 49s traded up for Jerry Rice and other trade ups have worked out pretty well for teams, and I don't think they are gonna complain in hindsight that they didnt get value. All that matters is how players play, not where you draft them. I'm usually a bigger fan of trading down than trading up but last year Tannenbaum knew better than any of us what the value in that draft class was, and I'm glad he had the balls to move up, because I don't even want to imagine our defense without Harris or Revis.
anybody remember the draft of 91 or was it 92 moving back 3 spots and getting a starting rb johnny johnson? that was a good trade, also getting two 1st rounders for keyshawn was a good trade, and the moss for coles trade was good
Too little for Drob? Were lucky that we got picks for him I would have accepted a ball rack. Coles is much more than a clubhouse leader than Moss too I think he's a much better all about player. Remember the Skins playoff game last year when Moss just gave up on the ball and Seattle intercepted it for a TD... he doesn't have much heart.
I'm not going to address all of these but I want to go with the Herm trade you made. You don't think it was in our favor to get Leon Washington just for ridding of a sub-par coach in Herm Edwards? I see the point you're making in this thread.. I just think you're wrong.
Trading up to select Aaron Glenn was a great idea. I know that seems ancient history by now, but it was a great move.
