and how many times have we had the chance to get the clear cut top Qb in the draft. And who is to say that we can't trade up, get the top QB and still have the first three picks?

Your analogy is wrong we would be rolling 1 large dice and still another. We are giving up 1 pick not 2 if we were to move up. At least only 1 on the first day of the draft. Giving up the 29th pick in the draft is well worth it to get a franchise QB.

    #1 - Texans take Bush
#2 - Saints take Williams or Ferguson
    #3 - Titans take YOUNG

It's possible this happens, if not, we could take Young.

Yeah or the Titans could go for Leinart and reunite Norm Chow with his pupil

There's no way they're not going to take leinart if he drops to them at #3 -- please. Vince Young is not going until the latter half of the first 10 picks and he could even fall further.

The Jets have a chance to add a couple of cornerstone type players in this draft. I would keep my picks.

You probably thought the same thing with Manning? How'd that work out for you guys? Did you want Gallery like most Giants fans at the time? Oh and how'd that work out again..

It's not the expectation but I wouldn't say "there's no way". Who knows where their front office has the QB's ranked. Also, McNair and Young are good friends - he may be pushing for Young. Who knows if McNairs opinions are considered by the FO but they may be.

I would say it's possible Leinart falls to #4. Likely, probably not, but possible.

That is a little apples and oranges. The Giants only had Warner on the roster for God's sake. They needed a QB anyway. The Jets are going to suck next year, no matter the QB, so they can wait a year. It is not an immediate need with Penny and Ramsey on the roster. The Giants also rebuilt their Oline through the FA (remember McKenzie?). There were really only one or two top-tier O-Line free agents this year, so the Jets have to rely on the draft.

And many people thought Gallery should not have been rated as high as he was. Brick, at least IMO, is a much better player than Gallery with more upside.

    Different situation I think.

....but he is a dud, he has done nothing to ever show that he he may become a solid QB. What has he done? been drafted in the first round, thats about it. Ryan Leaf was drafted in the first round. It is ridiculous that everyone is so high on Ramsey.

If we had never traded for him and a Redskin fan came to TGG asking what we thought about him, almost to a man we would have said career backup. Now because he has a green jersey he has 'unfulfilled poential'. Give me a Break

Gallery not the prospect that DBrick is?? Huh, revisionist history at its finest here.. Gallery was every bit the prospect DBrick is now, only Gallery could run block as well. The Giants had Kerry Collins on there roster who took them to a SB. There OL was a complete mess and the depth at OL in that draft wasn't nearly as strong as this years crop.. We have a QB in Penny that is finished and a Qb in Ramsey that is on a 1 year deal. Neither one is considered the future at the position. Good GMs like Accorsi understand that you don't get in position to get a franchise Qb very often and when you do get that chance you do whatever it takes to get him.. The Giants of a couple years ago were very similar to the situation we are in now and if it works out for us the way it did for the Giants we'll be in good shape for the future..

It is not revisionist history. I never thought much of Gallery and there were scouting reports that I read that didn't have him rated as high as he was drafted. Brick is the best O-Lineman in a deep draft. It is my opinion, I said it last year about Gallery and I am saying it now.

And your comments about their O-line make no sense. They brought McKenzie. The O-Line free agents available were of a much higher class than this year. Yes, the O-Line class this year is better than last. That is why it made more sense for the Giants to rebuild their line through FA, and the Jets are going to use the draft. Which is what I said in my original post.

Everyone and their mother knew that Collins was out. That is why the Giants signed Warner, and traded for Manning. There was an immediate need to fill the position. The Jets just restructured Penny and traded for Ramsey. The need is not as immediate, therefore the Jets are in a completely different situation. They can afford to see how Penny or Ramsey pan out this year and draft a QB next year. The Giants could not wait. Apples and Oranges.

i think i recall gallery being a gigantic prospect with huge write -ups and when he was drafted everyone said the pick was a no brainer, clearly the best lineman available...

Time will tell on what we do with the pick, but I would ask one question and make one point

Question: Is Leinart a smart, hardworking, team-first, football-loving player? Because that's what Mangini has consistently said he's looking for. And no matter whether you think Leinart is or is not a franchise quarterback on the field, Mangini would need to see those characteristics off the field if we were to trade up and get Leinart.

Point: This FO has shown no appetite to spend big bucks on one player. Leinart at 2 would cost a heck of a lot more than Mario/D'Brick/or even Leinart at 4. So, a decision to move up is as much a business decision as a football decision in their minds. And I'm not saying the FO will put dollars and cents between it and a winning football program, but that will be a factor and potential reason to not trade up. The real analysis to do would be to look at the cost of #4 & #29 vs. #2 if that's what it would cost us to move up.
