According to Adam Schefter, the trade between the Viking and the Chiefs has been completed. www.NFL.com The breaking new is on the top of the main page. How does this change the Cheifs strategy with the 5th pick? They aren't gonna get Chris Long...so what do you think are their plans and how it will effect the Jets?
I think it's very likely we see the following situation play out: 1. Jake Long 2. Glenn Dorsey 3. Matt Ryan 4. Chris Long 5. Vernon Gholston 6. McFadden
They'd have a few options... 1. Matt Ryan- W/ the second first rounder there's less pressure to address the OL and they can take a potential franchise QB 2. Gholston/Long- Obviously replacing Allen...they need a pass rusher for Herm's cover 2 scheme 3. Sed Ellis- Get a 3T type in there for Herm's D 4. Trade down and acquire more picks
Atlanta ain't takin chris long. They have John Abraham and just spent a first rounder on a DE last year.
yea Hotlanta has a 2 man draft at the top. Either Dorsey or Ryan. Trading down isn't really a good option either b/c they already have a ton of picks.
Atlanta would probably love to trade out of #3. Dorsey makes the most sense for them, but it looks as if he's a virtual lock for the Rams. If we want to trade up & grab Long, that would be the spot to get to. I'm sure they'd love to trade back & grab Ellis or Ryan a few picks later.
yea i fixed it, i meant to say dorsey to atl and long to stl either way the point i was trying to make was i think gholston, c.long, and mcfadden will be gone by 6
I agree Atlanta doesn't take Long. I believe Dorsey to the Rams, Ryan to the Falcons, Ghoulston to the Raiders, Long to the Chiefs, McFadden to the Jets.
I'm not sure trading back is a good option for them. They already have a TON of picks. They might as well take the chance on the franchise QB, or reach for Sed Ellis if Dorsey is gone. The only benefit trading down has for them is saving them some cash. They dont need any more picks.
They could save money & also obtain future picks. Perhaps a future 2nd. They don't have to take more picks in this draft.
Well, regardless of who they would target at #2, if a trade were to happen, the New York Jets may very well have to trade up in order to get any of the elite players.
I think it would be incredibly retarded of the Chiefs to trade Jared Allen, a proven vet who is very worth his money, for an unproven potential pass rusher at #5. They could never justify it to their fans that they traded their best defensive player for a first rounder, only to try and draft his replacement. That is stupidity at it's finest from a GM standpoint. so therefore I think the Chiefs look to get out of the 5 spot, and if they can't they probably take Branden Albert as they were likely to do prior to trading Allen. So like the scenarios posted above play out where it is Long and Mcfadden at #5, they would either trade back for a suitor for one of the two, and bet their will be suitors, or they go with Albert.
It looks virtually impossible for the Jets to get C. Long without trading up. Let's say picks 2-4 shake out per NFL Draft Countdown: 1) Dolphins - J. Long 2) Rams - Gholston 3) Falcons - Dorsey 4) Raiders - McFadden 5) New England, via trade - C. Long 6) Jets - Screwed I say that if C. Long fell to #5, it'd be a virtual lock for the Pats to move up to nab him. It wouldn't cost much, it fills a need, it screws us over, and KC would be more than happy to move down (unless they really want Long, but sounds like they're going to go o-line). We'd have to either match it or exceed the offer with KC to keep the Pats away, but more likely exceed it. With equal offers in this situation, they should take the lower pick because then they could pay whoever they pick up less money. Unless we can convince them that the Pats are evil, and hope that Herm would want to do us one last favor. Unlikely...
The only thing that might change is instead of KC drafting a Offensive Linemen they might consider drafting a Defensive End now.
