The best thing Ben did for us was bring some really cool Aussies to TGG. It was a great story while it lasted, but if last year's performance was any indicator, it's time to pull the plug on this experiment.
It wouldn't be surprising. Graham is a guy that everyone wants to see succeed. However, he has shown (the proverbial) "flashes" but hasn't been all that consistent following a pretty good first year in 2005.
Yeah it was a nice story, but the story is over. Never was THAT impressed with his directional kicking. Never did a good job of pinning the offense back.
If the Jets want to beat the Pats, the punting game will be absolutely crucial. Shanking punts, like Graham did all too often, won't get us anywhere. Look at how important old man Feagles was for the Giants.
Yes ,it would be sad to see him go but you wont get rid of me so easily.:beer: I think in future more Aussies will find their way to the NFL as punters but I would prefer to see young guys who can't cut it at our top football level (nothing to do with big leg) move over early in their career and can spend more time developing the all round punting skills. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, as they say. Because of BG and Rocca at the Eagles some of our big legged veterans are eyeing off a nice retirement as NFL punters but I think the Mat McBriar route to the NFL should be the preferred one for NFL teams.
Good news. He was hopeless and the importance of a good punter can never be underestimated in this league.
When he first signed with the Jets, I remember hearing how his punts were hard to catch due to the way he kicked them. I can't recall any returners having a hard time catching his punts during a game.
Graham was tied with Feagles last year for percentage of punts downed inside the 20. He also averaged 3 yards per punt more so that's not a good comparison. He was 4th in percentage inside the 20 in '06. I don't know why people think he was so bad when he really wasn't. There may be better punters out there but not many.
I agree, but so did everybody else. Like I said, he was 10th in downing the ball inside the 20..out of 32. Not great but not as bad as 22 other teams did. 4th in 2006. Don't get me wrong, by all means they should get somebody better if they can find them. It's just that I don't think he was as bad as most punters in the league are now.
Well, he's not gone yet so let's see the competitive nature in him try to hold on to his job before writing him off.
Line grahm up in the receiver slot or on special teams. He’s a rugby player for gods sake, not a kicker. He’s probably bored out of his mind. Let him run down the field and decapitate someone a few times a game.
If they draft a punter in the 7th, why would you care? It's the 7th round, most don't make it onto the roster anyway.
Let him earn his place, if they find someone better, so beit. He might perform a little better with a little competition breathing down his neck.
