Interesting info about the Saints maybe tradng up with the Rams. I find this very interesting, since most teams aren't interested in trading up. IMO, if the Saints trade up, they are looking at drafting Dorsey, since ATL seems to be showing alot of interest in Dorsey. The Saints are lacking picks to begin with, I think they should stay put and....Rivers, Cromartie, McKelvin or a long shot Ellis maybe available. One of these players will fall to #10 for the Saints

Good stuff, the rumors will be swirling the next 10 days.

SAINTS LOOKING TO TRADE UP WITH RAMS?

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 16, 2008, 7:24 p.m.
The conventional wisdom around the NFL is that no team wants to trade into the first few picks in the draft because of the exorbitant salaries and signing bonuses that top picks receive. But one team might be looking to buck that conventional wisdom.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Saints have made informal inquiries about what it would take to acquire the Rams’ first-round pick, No. 2 overall.

The Saints currently own the 10th overall pick, and under the draft trade chart that has been used for the last two decades, the Saints would have to give up a bounty of draft picks to move from No. 10 to No. 2. But some teams are circulating a new trade chart, and on that chart, a trade of the Saints’ first- and second-round picks for the Rams’ first-round pick would appear reasonable, if possibly a little too favorable to the Saints.

If the Saints did make the trade, what would they do with the No. 2 pick? Schefter reports that New Orleans wants one of the draft’s top defensive players, likely LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey or Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston.

If the trade doesn’t go through, the Rams could take Dorsey, Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long or possibly pull a surprise and select Arkansas running back Darren McFadden

This would be very good for the Jets, because it would mean a good chance that, barring a trade up, Gholston and McFadden would both be on the board at 6. Saints are almost definetly going for Dorsey, because they don't need an end with Smith and Grant, so Chris Long and Gholston are likely out. They could address their other big needs, corner & OLB, with either Rivers or one of the CBs, so they're not it. Therefore, the draft would likely play out as:

    MIA-Jake Long
    NO-Dorsey
    ATL-Ryan
    OAK-Chris Long
    KC-Albert? Ellis? Clady? Gholston?
    Jets-McFadden or Gholston.

    Hoping this happens.

i could definitely see this happening. I think the Rams will want to trade down, i don't really think they're that high on either Chris Long or Dorsey. And if NO can bring in a local product like Dorsey, that could really boost their befense. If i were NO i would really push hard to make a trade happen. I'm sure the jets would love for this to happen because then one if not two of the big four will drop down to the jets.

Agreed! The key is Saints taking Dorsey from ATL. I have a good friend who lives in the Atlanta area and he told me yesterday, the Falcons are VERY high on Dorsey. Dorsey is also coming in for a second visit to ATl next week. BTW, I believe Oakland is strongly considering Vernon Gholston, Howie's son is a popular choice, but Al likes physical freaks.

Don't be surprised Chris Long falls to the Jets.....I've been working many permutations and combinations in the top 6 and it could happen.

Unlikely to happen. New Orleans has 6 picks and to go from 10 to 2 it would take their entire draft and then some. More likely to try to trade for Ellis at 5,6, or 7

I would do backflips if a trade like this happened that set off a chain reaction to bringing Long into green and white. I'm still very wary of the Pats though, I can still see them swapping places with the Chiefs and nabbing our guy right under our noses. Gotta keep on our toes in that respect and have Al Davis and Carl Peterson on speed dial just in case.

Surely the Saints are not that stupid to risk basically an entire draft on 1 player. Mike Ditka is not coaching there anymore.

I could see Chris Long falling to us. I think Gholston will be gone by pick 4 at the lastest, Miami may even take him at #1.

I think the Saints will have to trade up if they want to get either of the top 2 DTs in this draft. Considering the monetary cost of a top 3-4 pick and the way teams have/are looking to get out of the spot, I think the cost of trading up to #2 might not be as bad as some think.

I doubt this goes down but if the Saints were to pull the trigger it would surely be for Dorsey. Not sure where they got the Ghoulston possibility but that won't happen with Grant and Will Smith on the team.

Dorsey is a unique talent but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I doubt they would give up more than their 1st and 2nd but even that is a high price to pay. If they were they must be satisfied that his injury risk is minimal. I think it's more likely that they move up to get Ellis (a little lower), although Dorsey is a better prospect and a huge home town favorite.
