I just watched that clip from JETS Nation on the jets website and they talk about Chris Baker not being back next year. Some how this has flown under my radar and I don't know what they are talking about. I guess he is upset he hasn't gotten an extension or something. Can someone fill me in with the details of this?

He has two years left on his current contract. He can retire if he wants, I suppose, but he's not going anywhere else unless the Jets decide to dump him.

Chad does not throw to the TE's so if he's the QB. why bother.

Brian Schottenheimer doesn't call plays to the TE's.

Unless the TE stays into block, the TE is an option in the passing game. Chad does not have the arm to throw a seam pass.

It a shame really. I think Baker has great hands. It's tough to have the ball thrown at you when you're constantly asked to stay put and help out a crumbling Oline. Baker is a good endzone threat. I think with this FA additions on the OL, we'll get to see him used more often.

I hope something does work out and he remains a Jet this upcoming season.

Chris Baker just got a reworked contract at the end of the season.

He needs to STFU and play...Laveranues Coles he's not!

We?re reaching a point, where i get really pissed about our players bitching around. Kendall, then Moore, then Baker (where he got a good raise), then Coles now Baker again. They get more Money in a year, by working only 6 months, than others get in their entire live, and all they can do is bitch for more.

I love Baker, but he got a good raise only a few months back, and the Jets told him, they want to give him a longterm deal, when he?s due. He doesn?t have any buissnes bitching now.

I love Baker as well. I think he has some of the best hands on the team. I think him and bubba are a great pair to have. I think TE will be utilized a lot more this year especially because they will not have to block as much with a better O-Line.

When the heck did that happen? I thought he asked for a new deal because he wanted to remain a Jet for the rest of his career, I didn't hear that he recieved one. Now since this newest rumor has him not returning, that would imply he didnt get a new deal. Not meaning to say you are basing that off misinformation moose, but unless you can verify that he got a new deal, I think you are mistaken.

On another note, I think Baker should get a longer term deal, not exactly more money per year, but just give him a 2 year extension so he is here another 4 years. that should keep him happy for a while, and i think he deserves it, he has been all kinds of solid for us when called upon, which I don't think is nearly enough.

He was unhappy, and the Jets gave him a good raise in November or December. I think he said AFTERWARDS, that he wants to retire as a Jet. That?s why i can?t understand this at all. I think that raise was supposed, to keep him happy, untill he is due for his longterm deal.

If Baker has any sense, I say just bite the bullet this year. His current stats won't help his cause at all. But come next season, he'll have the luxury of playing with an Offensive Line that may not require is help on a consistent basis. I see him having an exceptional year in 2008.

After all is said and done, after the season Baker will be armed with better stats that will give him more leverage to renegotiate his contract.

For now he should just keep his mouth shut and play.

Although his stats may not show it, he has been VERY helpful to us with some extremely clutch plays. I really hope he plays for us this year otherwise we will be looking for another tight end in the draft probably.

    Chris Baker gets contract extension

    By Hoss Aultman

    Posted Dec 12, 2007

Jets tight end Chris Baker was given a contract extension. The announcement was made by Dave Hutchinson in the Star-Ledger.

"TE Chris Baker, who was thought to be in Mangini's doghouse after criticizing the play-calling following a controversial loss to the Eagles in Week 6, quietly had his contract renegotiated last month, The Star-Ledger has learned," wrote Hutchinson. "Baker, in his sixth season, signed a new three-year contract
