I am going this year and I think I have my tickets lined up but who knows. If not it is first come first serve but that is all I know. Have any of you guys gone before and do you have any feedback for me about going?

Too much nonsense in having to get there hours before (5AM or earlier) just to get tickets. Too much downtime between picks and the fact that you don't get any of the commentary or side-stories that you might view on the NFL Network.

Get in line at before the crack of dawn, wait around until 3PM for the start of the draft, factor in another hour and a half before the Jets pick, 2nd rounder probably not until way into the evening hours
    v. sitting in the comfort of one's home and enjoying all the amenities
    = no contest.

I won a pair on WFAN in the mid-90's, but I couldn't get my cousin to go with me on short notice so I punked out. I'm always all pumped at the beginning, but eventually I lose interest and start tuning back in only when I know the Jets are up.

Haha, one of the best things ever was seeing Matt Leinart look like someone ran over his puppy every time he got passed over. Even his hair gel looked sad. "And with the next selection, the New York Jets pick..." "NO! GAH, NO! Don't do it! N-O-O-O-O-O-O!" "...D'Brickashaw Ferguson." "HAHAHA!" That was awesome.

Snort, that Ted Ginn business was pretty good, too. Anyway, have fun.

Those people overreact like it's the end of the world. A little overdramatic.

I'm with you Jet, I'm always flying at the start of the draft but after the Jets have picked and I have another 2 hours or more before they pick again I end up losing interest. I have to say I can't remember being so excited for a draft since the Keyshawn draft. Great news for us over here in the UK is the draft is being telivised live on our Sky sports channel opposed to being ripped off and having to pay an extra premuim.

I've been to six or seven of them. Get on the correct line. You can buy drinks and food inside, but expect stadium prices. You get a bag of 'goodie' when you go in; Usually consist of a blank draft sheet (contest), a list of top players available, some cheap football cards, a fun size candy bar and a crappy FM only radio. :p Radio is so that you can hear the words on the muted TV screens tuned to ESPN. If you have a decent small digital FM radio w/ headphones, I'd bring that just so I won't have to fiddle with trying to get better reception. Try and find a seat that lets you see the small TV screens. BIG screens on the back wall are NOT tuned to ESPN, but only show highlights and stupid trivia questions. Bring a draft guide, buy the paper, bring something to do, cause between picks it does get sorta boring, especially later when you no longer know every stat and background story of the players being selected. Might be different with less time between picks this year.... Cameras gravitate toward the most *cough*colorful*cough* people. I tend to keep away from them, but maybe you're a camera whore. :) Wear a jersey or team colors so people know who you root for, while they tell you how crappy your team is. :) It's fun if you know your football and can talk without being an ass. If you don't actually know football, PLEASE just shut up. :)

As for the draft, it's fun if you go with other football fans. And like half the people there, you can always leave after the first round (or even after your team picks). If you've never been, I'd check it out at least once. With the Jets picking early this year, you won't even have to wait around that long if you don't like it. :)

I posted this in the Draft forum a week or so ago. Pretty good info on the logistics of the Draft this year.

I'm going as well, our plan is to head into NY late Friday night, hit the bars until around 4am, then stumble towards Radio City and pass out in line until they give out the bracelets.

    Should be a good time.

Also found out this week that Ferall from Sirius will be broadcasting live on the street near Radio City before the Draft, so that will be entertaining at least.

The fan's guide to the 2008 NFL Draft
    National Football League

The NFL announced procedures for fans wishing to attend the 73rd NFL Draft on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This year's draft will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday and will conclude with the final selection of Round 2. The third round will begin on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The NFL Draft is a free event; however seating is extremely limited.

The following procedure applies to Saturday only:

Wristbands to secure a ticket and entry into the Draft will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26 on the 50th Street side of Radio City Music Hall. All persons wishing to attend the Draft must be present in order to receive a wristband. No exceptions will be made. Please remember that fans arrive very early. Fans who receive wristbands will then be able to line up beginning at 1:00 p.m. with doors opening at 1:45 p.m.

Fan entry will take place at the "Carriage Door Entrance" located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.

Fans who attend Day Two of the Draft (Sunday) in its entirety will be eligible to receive a ticket for the 2009 NFL Draft by filling out a form distributed only at Radio City prior to the first selection of the third round. These forms will only be accepted at the conclusion of Day Two, after the final selection has been made, to designated NFL staff members on-site. Only one form per person will be allowed. Doors will open to fans at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Other opportunities for fans to experience the excitement of the 2008 NFL Draft include the NFL Draft Preview on Friday and NFL Draft Fan Central on Saturday.

NFL Draft Preview will take place at the Winter Garden in the World Financial Center on Friday, April 25 at 12:00 p.m. NFL Draft Preview is a free event where fans can see the top college football prospects for the 2008 NFL Draft. Players from the New York Jets and the Super Bowl XLII Champion New York Giants also will appear and NFL Network's Jamie Dukes will host the event. The Winter Garden at the World Financial Center is located at 225 Vesey Street in lower Manhattan. For directions, click here.

NFL Draft Fan Central will be open to all fans on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on 51st Street between 6th and 7th avenues. NFL Draft Fan Central is a free event and will feature interactive football activities, Giants and Jets player autograph sessions and live coverage of the 2008 NFL Draft on the NFL Network big screen.

Held in New York City since 1965, the NFL Draft will be televised nationally by NFL Network and ESPN. This is the third consecutive year that the Draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall.

Thanks for the info wwwestonc. I wonder just how many spots there are. I was thinking of coming in around 6..hopefully that would be early enough. I have to post a few more times befoer I can see your link (need 10 total :) ).

Anyone know what the procedure is for getting in day 2? Was thinking if I couldn't get in day 1 i'd do that (or even if I did get in day 1 of doing that.)

    I appreciate everyones info/insight.

No not really she went to my freinds party last year but I was traveling so I wasn't there. Anyway I think I am going to hit up the draft this year. I don't think they will be picking this high for a very long time hopefully. Why not you know I can always bounce and go to D&B in times square afterward.

I was thinking about actually going this year, but now I'm not too sure. Sounds like big hassle.

If you guys want to go, I'd suggest just going to day 2, hanging out there all day, and getting the day 2 diehard passes. It's a lot less hassle, a really calm atmosphere, and means no worrying about day one the following year. Plus, people at home can hear what's being yelled the crowd over the air if they pay attention.

Green Hurricane, when do I have to show up on day 2 to get in? I believe it starts at 10am.

You make a good point this year since it'll also have round 3 which should have some great players.
