I see Mayo as more of a Cover 2 4-3 linebacker. Curtis Lofton is the guy that I want in the middle...but Mayo can play.
I love all the research the Jets are doing for this year's draft. It's very common for teams in the top of the draft to study up on a handful of picks, so they look well-versed, but the Jets seem to want to get to know EVERY single player who will go through three rounds. I don't know if there is a GM MVP award, but if there is, Tannenbaum is making his play for it. He has all eyes in the NFL looking his way thanks to his off-season wheeling and dealing this year. I can see him in his office, rubbing his palms together, saying "Just wait, people. Wait for the draft. You ain't seen nothin' yet."
It may seem like that, but all teams are allowed only 30 total interviews, so every team in the league is doing the same thing - I'm actually a little scared about how top-heavy the list seems. I know you've got to get that pick right, but I'd like to see a few more less-heralded prospects getting interviewed.
To get Albert and/or Mayo, we need to trade to the mid first, both of these guys stocks have been skyrocketing.
Yeah they have been rising, I was actually hoping Mayo would fall to our second round pick and we could nab him to replace Barton. Ya never know though, David Harris was projected to go mid 20's and he fell to mid 40's. You can always hope, and if that happened we would have a nasty set of linebackers!
I've hopped on the Mayo bandwagon a little while ago, from what I have seen of him he looks like he going to be a solid pro. If he complements Harris we would have quite a strong ILB core...
I agree If anything all this indicates to me is that the Jets are hoping they won't have to pick at 6
I Like Mayo at Inside LB. At first i thought he's too small and more of a 4-3 LB but he's bigger then i thought at 6'1 242 Pounds , He has great speed and is a tackling machine.
I still prefer to wait until the 4th to possibly pick up Beau Bell or Jonathan Goff. I think they fit better in this scheme. They shed blockers well.
Scoping the entire class is how we get a kerry rhodes in the 4th round or how the pats got brady in the 7th. just curious: what rounds were the last 2-3 year's pro-bowlers picked in?
