Since the draft is approaching, Champ, can you tell us who you think we should draft? And don't list positions of need; my 3-year-old niece can do that.

i'm interested to hear your opinion of who we should take. because i know come draft day and thereafter you'll be criticizing something. so, why don't you impart your wisdom on all of us by telling us who the Jets should draft.

good point, i hear nothing but complaining and yet no insightful predictions to help the team get better. If you wanna bitch, at least contribute positively to getting the Jets as a better team.

always good to see champ striking the nerves of the regulars on the boards.....

everyone, even champ, throws out some good points. IMO one of the glaring facts that no one can deny is the absence of talent that carries a unit - whether its offensive or defensive from the drafts 2001 thru 2005.

there were some very nice picks, almost all pro picks (rhodes/cotch), but none that could propel the jets to that next level - especially when CP, martin, and abraham were healthy and effective.

but the bottom line is that those drafts left the jets with fumes as far as talent goes - especially on the offensive and defensive lines - and we have seen the evidence of that during mangini's first 2 years.

IMO the success of a draft is NOT how much value you get according to the charts and scouts, its who makes that difference at their resepctive position that allows your entire unit to perform at a higher level. it may be only 1 guy or if your spot on, 3 guys from a single draft class.

Yep. You got it. Nobody respects the NYJs on the line of scrimmage.

It's time for that to change, once and for all.

It's crazy I know...but do you think it's hard to respect us when we're not actually playing and the memories of last season are still fresh?

Cause I'd say Faneca and Jenkins should bring us some respect on the lines...

Not being a draftnik I would say no Brick, no DeW, no Santana, no JV, no Jolly/Nugent, no Thomas & anybody that has a heart & will make this team stronger & better & bring us to the level that will allow us to become an elite team that is really/truly able to compete for the SB not just the POs & then exit in the 1st round

Hahaha, mick, asking champ to be specific about anything is the ultimate exercise in futility. This will never happen, unless it's in the most obscure way possible and in a completely unrelated thread.

well that depends, i think if we go 8-8 and the team shows that we are going in the right direction, we stay the course. Great teams arent built overnight and while we are making serious progress in rebuilding, we still have a ways to go

ILB #2 corner WR among others. But that list looks alot better than what it did when Mangini took over.

We had to do a complete overhaul of our d and having that first 10 and 6 season gave us false hope that they could make it work when the obviously couldnt. Tangini finally had reason to blow it up and get some players that fit.
Adding Jenkins and Pace to a team with already young talent like Rhodes and Revis and Harris.

I believe we still have this year we will be pedestrian maybe 8-8 or 9-7 And then the year after that our team will be into superbowl contention.

Obviously this team still has alot of questions, but i feel we are going in the right direction. We are really not that far off.

    good points.

i hate to hijack this thread and turn it into a DMC debate...

but, personally, if i'm using your logic, then i would take McFadden at #6 (per he's available). this way, he can adjust to the NFL at an easier pace and be ready for a serious run (no pun intended -- actually, yea it is intended) in '09/'10.

im down with the various possible scenarios (trading back, taking Gholston, etc). It just seems to me that the people who think we should absolutely positively not take McFadden are the same people who are saying we have much other pressing needs - which is kind of what you're saying, and you're saying we won't address everything this year; which i pretty much agree with.

i don't doubt the significance of the trenches at all. i applaude Tangini for beginning to address that this Offseason.

in a poor attempt to link this to the OP's subject: in the previous regime as well as the current one, we have yet to get a bona fide star. Kerry Rhodes may be on his way, but he's not quite there yet. for all intents and purposes, McFadden does not only that, but also gives a true scoring threat. something we've thirsted for for how many years now?

if we're really 2 years away from actual SB contention, I feel like that warrants taking McFadden, because by '09/'10, we'll already have a star RB in him while the FO continues to address the other areas of need as they've started to this year and will continue to do in this draft and beyond,
