According to the miami herald, the Dolphins are negotiating with Jake Long. Now, they may just be posturing or using him for leverage or whatever, but assuming they take Long, here is how I expect it to turn out: 1. Miami - Jake Long 2. Rams - They could go Gholston or Long, but most likely they'll go Dorsey. 3. Atlanta - Outside shot they take Ryan or Ellis, they're said to like Dorsey if he's there, but something tells me they'd take Chris Long. 4. Oakland - Gholston or McFadden. I just don't see them taking anyone else. 5. KC - Ryan makes the most sense here, but Ellis is another possibility. So now it looks like it's quite possible Chris Long AND Gholston fall through. It's also possible that neither fall through and we're left with McFadden (a scenario I dread). Basically, it all hinges on Atlanta since I think the Rams will take Dorsey.
Looks like they're brining all the potential top picks in to avoid hold outs and overpaying. All the top prospects except Matt Ryan that is..
hmmm... I'm not one to continually make draft scenarios, so: I think this is a pretty vanilla pick for parcells down there in MIA. Don't get me wrong, Long is most likely going to be an excellent player, but having jason williams/chris long coming off the edge I think would make a bigger immeadiate impact.
This can only mean good news for us. That's one less obstacle for one of McFadden, C Long, or Gholston to fall to us.
I disagree, the Dolpins offensive line was as bad as ours last season, add to the fact that the Dolphins do not have two young first rounders on their offensive line (D-Brick and Mangold). The Dolphins are in bad shape on the O-line, I think Jake Long is a great pick here, the Dolphins are building for the future, Jason Taylor will be well over his prime when that time comes around.
This is the way I see it unfolding currently if Long does indeed go first... 1. Miami- J Long 2. St. Louis- C Long 3. Atlanta- Ryan(Or DOrsey) 4. Raiders-Gholston(They BTW will not pass on C. long if he falls to 4) 5. Chiefs- Dorsey or Albert 6. jets Dmac or trade down
Parcells could go Jake Long on the pick pretty easily. He's the #1 propsect in the draft on the offensive side of the ball and that's where the Fins problems have been of late. Taking Long to make Ronnie Brown and whoever the QB is better is a very reasonable play on Miami's part. I agree with Dorsey as the St Louis pick if JLong is gone and then it gets cloudy from there. I agree with KurtTheJetsFan that it's hard to see Oakland letting Chris Long get by them, Howie was beloved in Oakland and Chris has the stones to be taken there. God help them if they pass on him and their pick busts while he's going to the pro bowl.
Let's not forget that Parcells passed on Orlando Pace when the Jets had the #1 pick in 97 so I don't he will go OL unless the deal gets signed pre draft.
It could also be a smoke screen by Parcells who is a master at them. I read where he might negotiate with one or more people before the draft as part of a ploy to trade the pick. The real news will be if you hear they actually sign somebody before the draft.
This is true. Remember also that Pace had a huge amount of perceived value in that draft and the Jets had multiple suitors for the pick. Parcells wound up making 3 or 4 trades off of the proceeds of trading the #1 pick that year. I don't think the #1 pick has the same marketability it had that season and I don't think Parcells can trade it at this point, regardless of who he uses as a smokescreen.
This explains it well. Typical of Parcells and smart as well. Probably trying to set St Louis or Atlanta to trade up. http://www.miamiherald.com/614/story/489951.html here's another article that says they have also opened negotiations with Gholston as well. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-flspdolphins10sbapr10,0,7093217.story
Multiple sources have the Fins brining in all the potential top picks for negotiations. They don't want to overpay or have a hold out situation.
Yeah and Parcells will never let anybody know who he plans on picking until he does it. Not even his own people.
Regardless of who MIA takes, I just don't see C. Long making it past 4; whether OAK takes him or someone moves up to nab him - (I could see NE thinking about it if Gholston is already gone) I'll be the pessimist - C. Long is a pipe dream (unless we were to move up which I don't see happening)
