Do any of you really, realistically speaking, think we have a team that can 'Get It Done?' For all of you believers out there, Look at the BIG PICTURE. Although we have slowly separated ourselves from the L.A. Clippers of Football comparison, we haven't done anything significant to win the title since the signing of Parcells. I understand there's a new regime, and 'the process' of rebuilding, and 'moving in the right direction', and of the cliche' bull crap to keep fans excited, optimistic, and most of all QUIET. Im not in support of a Steinbrenner approach, but we need to start being more aggressive with bigger name FA's, and stop drafting 'under the radar' prospects(Bryan Thomas over Ed Reed, are you kidding me). Yea, I know, that's all said and done. There always an excuse, and im sick of it. How many people here said we dont want or need T.O. two years ago? And how many of you are thinking 'cancer' and 'chemistry' right now? Spare me the cliche's. LOOK AT HIS STATS over the past 1 1/2 seasons. It's not the name, the age, its about the player and what 'he brings to the table' type of players we need on this team!
i can understand someone not wanting him because of his attitude and whatnot but to call him a joke is ridiculous...on the field the man is a terror
Let me add that my post wasn't about T.O., it's about making the necessary moves needed to WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP, and imo, we still continue to NOT do that. Matt Chatham, Tim Dwight, Montasanto Pope.... they are surely gonna put us over the top.....
I can see what you are trying to say, but you are missing some points. Signing big time players does not necessarily get you to a SB, just look at Oakland, Redskins, or Minnesota. But the teams that have had long term success Pitt, Ne, or even Seattle and Carolina, for the most part, built through the draft and had very few big name additions. One of the biggest problems with this team over the past few years, has been depth. One injury at most positions, put the team into a tail spin, and Bradway ended up signing players off the street. What these signings do is 1) provide short term answers until we can draft the future and 2), more importantly, provides depth. I don't care if the moves are big or small, as long as the CS and FO get the type of players for the schemes that are being run. As long as the end results get us to the promised land, I don't care if we sign Arizona's practice squad, as long as we win. It is too early to tell yet.
A good draft can do wonders for a team but this team needs a lot more talent, speed, and youth to win the big game. To me it would seem more realistic that we could make a run in 2007 than to win it all this year.
In a couple of years, I think the Jets will be in solid shape under Mangini..... Belichickian rulership has now taken control of the AFC East, and the Jets made a good decision hiring Mangini in my opinion....
What a second... This just in... TO signed with the Cowboys. Who cares about TO. You think he would come here and not want to kill a quaterback you can barely throw the ball ten yards. That Bryan Thomas thing was four years ago.
You might want to look at more like 2009 to win it all but it would be nice to make the playoffs in 2007
I agree with you... the bigger the name doesnt necessarily mean the better. I just want players that have produced. The kind of production that provides results not only in the win column, but in the playoffs as well. I also believe in the youth movement, but with a mix of proven vets. To a certain point, we need to forgo the addition of 'bodies' through 'potential' and go for the players that have proven they had impact at whatever level they played. How many teams can say they found a 'gem' or a 'diamond in the rough'? at best, 1 or 2 per team, compared to 53 man roster. So going after a 'sleeper' isnt worth the risk, and can set you back an indefinite amount of years.
This is an example of the typical non-comprehensive reader. i suggest you re-read my original post there guy!
But the recent signings fit your logic. Kimo played a big role last year for Pitt, Catham and Dwight played for NE during their SB runs, and Dyson played for Seattle last year during the playoffs and SB. This is the same thing that Belicheck did, what Marvin Lewis did, hell even Saban in Miami. Get serviceable vets to provide leadership and bodies, until the team can adress long term needs in the draft and FA. It just takes patience and a long term view. That is hard for most Jets fans after all the years of crap, but it works. Breathe, take a step back, and look at the team at the end of next year.
nevermind all of that NYJet4life. What I want to know is who that girl is? she's giving me a chubby just looking at her.
SOunds like it's time for you to find a new team to root for. Geez, this org made a pretty big amount of changes so far,i don't kn ow how much more you can ask for. This post comes a day after we signed Dyson. If you are going to have a negative viewpoin t regardless, why root for them at all?
Right now, no, because our roster needs serious help and we aren't sure how good of a coach Mangini will be. We also need to see how they draft. They have only made low key signings, because this team needs to be rebuilt. You start that with the draft. You don't go out and sign high priced players at this point. If you can find guys in the draft to contribute at a position that we passed on in free agency, it helps shape the core of the team. And before you say the draft is a crap shoot, so is free agency. You see lots of FA busts, except they're alot more expensive. This is not the year for signing big names. What they've done so far is not the heart of the plan. But you have to start with baby steps. Give the front office a year or so before we determine what their long term plan is, and whether or not they're capable of getting it done.
Im not a noob, a darksider, a lightsider, a bandwagoner, or any other internet geek term used to describe the many different types of poster. I'm merely a Jets fan since i was old enough to understand football was a professional sport. Its funny how when someone on here tries to point out something thats intellectual in its nature, that someone who cant fully comprehend what its significance is in regards to the team, gets told to root for another team or something else thats stupid, because they cant equal or surpass a response that merits the original subject.
Is that right? Well,I have already intellectually comprehended your point. If you would kindly scroll down a few thousand consecutive threads, you would see that your topic has been covered One hundred and one thousand times. But you are right,i have nothing intellectual to add after that.
