Oh. Well I guess corners have no effect on things then. Let's just bring in any two schlubs, as long as we can draft Mario Williams.
Unbiased evaluation of NFL playmakers says it all. Don't get carpal tunnnel syndrome looking for the player ranked dead last in the entire NFL when it comes to playmaking. http://www.twominutewarning.com/d05rtg.htm
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Stick to the Raiders, or watch some Jets games, but quit talking out of your ass.
Coaching skills? Donnie Henderson is a far better coach of the secondary than Eric Mangini... Pats were ranked 31st in pass defense last year. Henderson develop 1st round picks such as Chris McCalister and Ed Reed into All Pro DB's and second day draft picks Will Demps, Kerry Rhodes and Eric Coleman into quality starting DB's. The only failure was Justin Miller which tells you that the scouting reports from The Sporting News was correct when they label Miller as potentially being uncoachable. http://www.twominutewarning.com/d05rtg.htm
I thought Miller looked extremely good when he started considering he was a rookie. He covered alot of quality recievers and rarely if ever got beat deep. Sure, he got picked on alil bit but what rookie CB doesn't? The bottom line is, when you watch him in terms of technique, feet, speed, agility and tackling he has the makings of an extremely good corner. As his confidence grows, so will his production. But we are very lucky to have Justin Miller in green.
Obviously you don't know what yiour talking about. First D barrett didn't shut down A johnson 7- 125 . Second in 2004 Steelers were predomintantly a running team(go look up all Steelers wr that year) . So what did D barrett do. Was it Steelers offense(rookie QB) or D Barrett. Theres a reason why no one was throwing big money at P burress in FA(he was more a blocker than reciever in 2004) Now your trying to claim Jets Dline had no effect against worst oline in football. You could have played CB and looked as good. Since you obiously think D Barrett was this great CB in 2004. What did D barrett do against the Rams in 2004(without Abraham) Nah Pass rush not important, D Barrett a shutdown CB. You believe that and I have a bridge to sell you. Again Lets see what D Barrett does in 2006 without J abraham. IMO its not going to be pretty.
For the record, he shut down Plaxico despite Abraham NOT playing in the Divisional playoff game... I'm for Miller at RCB, but just stating a fact.
anyone who wants an example of Justin Miller performing well in coverage, then take a look at the game last year against Carolina. Miller guarded Steve Smith for much of the game, limiting Smith to one of his few poor games last year. I'll admit, because of our turnovers and inept Offense, Carolina didn't have to throw very much; but if you watch the game, they tried to go to Smith several times, and Miller was with him the whole way. To me, that shows Justin Miller has a ton of potential; especially when he's so young. cheers
Finally someone who actually watched Jet games last year and realizes that Miller has showed us aboslutely nothing. If you think Miller is so great, by your definition of great, since has a lot of potential, then Strait should also be considred great. Yet he can't even get on the field, just like miller.
First off, like u said, the panthers didn't need to throw and I got the impression Law was covering smith.
Strait doesnt have anywhere near the potential that Miller has. Miller displayed speed, agility, quickness and a physical presence. He rarely got beat deep against some very good recievers and did an outstanding job against Steve Smith. What has Strait done in his career? He's an average nickel back he constantly gets beat deep.
well you're under the wrong impression then. Miller guarded him in the game too. Law guarded him also, but neither for the entire game. and if you read what i said, despite not having to throw very much, WHEN they tried throwing to Smith with Miller on him, he was blanketed. Not many CB's were able to do this last year; for a rookie to do so, that says something. and by the way, no one said Miller is great. you're typing words in people's mouths. cheers
I happen to watch my Jet games very closely: this one I saw from the stands. Andre Johnson has a statisically good day, sure. But if you remembered the game, you'd know that Carr threw to more or less Johnson and Johnson alone. Play. After play. Note that Carr had 12 completions (25 attempts) and Johnson had 7 receptions (15ish targets). Barrett had 3 passes defensed and a pick, a very solid game against a top WR. Anyone remember that endzone post he broke up?
I'd feel more comfortable with Miller starting than Barrett. I was pretty impressed with Millers rookie year. If I'm Mangini, I would make Barret a safety imediately where he could excel IMO..
the Patriots needed a corner in last years draft and passed on Miller and waited for Ellis Hobbs in the 3rd round. Mangini learned under Belichick and surely evaluates talent in a similar light and didn't think enough to add him to his secondary in NE. Miller is a nickel who will be one of the league's premier return men with a little more seasoning. Let's call a spade and spade.
