Sedric Ellis ran 5.01 at 297lbs and did 36 reps on the bench. Ellis had a very productive year and has been neck and neck with Dorsey for the top DT. He may push McFadden or Gholston to the Jets. Don't forget Al Davis loves USC players and they need DL help. At worst Ellis is available at 6 for the Bengals, Saints nad Broncos for trade.

Should we go for the gusto of more draft picks, or the satisfaction of a NO. 6?!

Hey, now, that question is an "Embarrassment of Riches" if there ever was one...!

I don't see Ellis as pushing anybody out of the top 5 at this point. It's going to take somebody getting arrested or an offseason injury to get him up that high.

If a team needs a 4-3 DT he's going to go really quickly after that though. The 6 or 7 pick are real possibilities.

yeah this was pretty good for us. Hopefully we'll see St. Louis go with Dorsey and maybe ellis to either atlanta or oakland.

at 297, with his explosiveness and power, could he be a 3-4 DE?

The earliest he will go is #8 if somebody decides to trade up with Baltimore to jump over Cincinnati. I keep saying it but nobody understands that anybody interested in a 4-3 DT will not trade with the Jets or NE because there is no chance either of us will take one. Baltimore won't either but that would be a logical place to trade up to if you did want one.

We already have a 6'1" - 300 lb. guy that doesn't fit on our D.

He makes sense for a team like STL, ATL or OAK. The best scenario is something like this:

    1. J. Long
    2. Dorsey
    3. Ellis
    4. McFadden/Gholston
    5. Ryan
    6. C. LONG!!!!!

This is really the only way the draft could unfold where Ellis would matter. Dorsey has to be taken at #2 in order for Ellis to become more desirable. I don't think that will happen, though.

I don't think this thread was created for us to take Ellis on his impressive performance. I think it just pointed it how his performance may help crazy Al take a DT, rather than DMC at #4.

Which sounds good to me. If...IF...Gholston and DMC are available #6, I'd have to imagine the orgy-sized number of calls we'd be getting for a possible trade down.

Everything hinges on Dorsey and where he lands.

If Dorsey goes to Atlanta, Ellis just made NY happy. Cincy and Denver are in need of a DT and either team would have to move ahead of the other to secure Ellis. It's that or draft the BAP or go for Balmer.

Going for Ellis would amount to a deal involving picks that wouldn't leave the dry high and dry.

If Dorsey does not go high, either DT could drop to each team and a trade up is not necessary.

Pray Atlanta or Oakland drafts Dorsey. If so, Cincy or Denver come calling, we trade down, and we still get the player we want as DMC could drop, or Mendenhall would be there, ripe for the picking.

hey cracky mc crackerton. put the pipe down. chris long is by far the safest and best DL in this draft. chris long will be better off a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 player. if he fell past the dolphins hed go at two or three. plain and simple. and your definitely nuts if al davis would pass up the chance to fill the stadium with fans by drafting the son of a Raiders HOF'er

If Ellis available to us at #6 I would hope Denver and Cincy come calling and package DRob and the 6th pick to them for their 1st and a 3rd.

you can keep saying it, but that doesn't mean it makes any sense. as has been pointed out to you before, if makes little difference whether or not the other team knows the jets will pass on a guy or not. if you're denver, cinci or some other team seeking a DL, you're competing with those other teams for that dl not the jets. if you're denver you know you have to get in front of cinci, and if you're cinci you need to prevent that. doesn't mean there will be interest for 6 but it has nothing to do with the jets not wanting a dl. strangely you admit this with your sentence about Balt.
