We had two QB's like that Namath who won a SB and Vinny who took us to an AFC champoinship game and played well in it. When you come up against a good D in the playoffs they will take away the short and intermediate routes if they don't feel you can beat them deep.
Winston, Vinny had a great first half in the AFCC. His second half was piss-poor. Interceptions helped take us from a Super Bowl ticket to sitting home watching the Broncos win the title. I didn't get to watch Namath, so I can't speak about him, but wasn't he pretty accurate? Vinny just tossed the ball into the air and prayed. I'm not saying I don't want a guy who CAN throw downfield, I am saying I don't want a guy like Young who throws downfield just for the sake of showing us he can. Same with Culpepper. I would take a guy like Penny who I know can hit his guys 10/20 yards out, than a guy like Young who is going to chuck it downfield and hope Coles can catch it and not get drilled.
you cnt blame culpepper for the vikings not making the playoffs alot during the last few years. his ownder never gave him a Defense mean while Mcnabb had one of the best. all i know is culpepper is a better passing qb thaan mcnabb and his #s prove that.
Disagreed. McNabb is a top 5 QB. He carried his team with very little offensive weapons to 3 straight NFC championships. He went to a superbowl. Cullpepper is a great fantasy QB. He'll throw for a ton of yards, a ton of TD's and turn the ball over a lot too. He hasn't proven he can be a guy who can put his team on his back and carry them, and last year he was badly outplayed by Brad Johnson. IMO he's always been overrated. Pretty good, not great, not elite.
I didn't say anything about him not making the playoffs. I'm just talking about him being a lesser QB than Mcnabb. Culpepper put up those numbers because he had Randy there. His performance on the field this season proved that. IMO Brad Johnson doesn't outplay Mcnabb in Philly (or anywhere else for that matter). Doesn't even come close. If Culpepper was that good, no way Minn. lets him walk and sticks with Johnson. Regardless of his injury.
where do expect your team to be when your always in the bottom 4th of the league in defense? to tell me that culpepper is a run 1st qb is BS you dont throw 39 tds being run 1st. if he is healthy and 100% culpepper with miami defense is gonna be scary thing to play.
ok he played 8 games without moss when he was hurt last year and did just fine.. this year doesnt prove anything. he had a new offensive cast after being used to 84 and defense's playing a certin way. ill wait till i see what h e does with chris chambers before i final grade him.. also i will like to also point out that culpepper has been over 60% iin passing ever year in his career while mcnabb has been over that # once.
He did do fine without Moss last season. And I agree with you that he's definately NOT a run first QB. I just think he has a tendency to make poor decisions, and this season he looked completely out of his element. I too am curious to see how he does in Miami (keeping my fingers crossed that he DOESN'T do well because.....well....y'know.....the :finssuck: ). If I had to choose between the two though, I would choose Mcnabb in a heartbeat. IMO he's more of a complete QB.
The question on Culpepper should be answered this year once and for all. As long as he stays healthy, there should be no debate, just answers. Personally, I think he will flop. Who knows? Maybe he will prove me wrong, but I doubt it. Last year in Minny, without Moss, playing in the weakest division in football, he couldn't win. For Brad Johnson to come in and be an overnight hero tells a pretty big story. Again, McNabb has been in the NFCC three times, and even won it once. Culpepper can't claim that, even with Moss. Stats don't tell the whole story, especially at QB. The QB is the leader of the team, and it's his responsibility to will his team to win against all odds. This is what people are dogging Peyton Manning for. No one can deny the guy is an elite QB, but he can't seem to will his way to the big wins. On the other hand, you have guys like Hasselbeck who play above themselves to help their team win. I'll take that QB any day of the week. Though if you offered me a Big Ben I would take him in a heartbeat
Just jumping in to say: the UNDISPUTED legacy of quannum world. Just in case you were wondering what the definition of undisputed was.
Mcnabb had a elite defense with a owner who cared to make the team great.. culpepper had no defense with a cheap owner.culpepper is a qb who can light up with a great defense like miamis thats gonna be tough to beat. so i will wait and see.. also tis has to stop cause im starting to sound like a phin fan and we all know :finssuck:
One more thing Hydro (in regards to your comment on Dante not being used to defenses playing the Vikings differently because they didn't have Moss to focus on). Mcnabb never had a good crop of recievers, and defenses focused soley on him (until TO arrived). My point is, Mcnabb was a top 5 QB with or without defenses keying in on him. Culpepper (from what we've seen so far) is not.
ill agree with that to certin extent.. but mcnabb too has had stretches were he has flat out stunk and was throwing alot of ground balls.. and lets not forget that AJ feely went 5-1 with that team too.
You seem to be eloquent with your words....Now if you just open your eyes, you will be complete. Buddy....I never liked Vince Young at all & wanted USC to win Ropse Bowl; But if you saw the Rose Bowl & watch film of Vince Young....The only way you can't love this guy is if your just plain retarded or predjudiced. The film doesn't lie
Hmmm...So am I retarded or prejudice? I can't wait to hear what being a fan of actual passers being QBs makes me.
i don't know about this aspect. there are numerous QB's who succeed with medicore Defenses (i.e. Trent Green and Carson Palmer). Johnson had the same Defense Culpepper had and still outperformed him; that speaks for itself. cheers
I dont want Young either. I dont question his athletic ability but I do question his mental ability. Texas catered to his strengths and in collegeyou can get by on athletic ability, not the same in the pros. Young hasnt taken a snap from under center, only shotgun. There is probably a reason for that. Thats a bigger adjustment thatn it might seem. He doesnt seem like he would be the guy to put in the extra hours of studying plays and opposing defenses.
