If the Bengals want to go from 9 to 6 and the trade value says the trade is worth a 3, would you make the trade for a #4?
yes...if none of your top 4 are not there, it makes more sense to drop, get another pick, and pay contractually less for our draft pick. This is assuming that whoever we get at 9 is probably the same person we'd get at 6.
only if the Big 4 are gone (Mcfadden, Gholston, and the Longs) . I would try and fish out a 4th or next years 3rd or something like that, but if they don't budge i would go ahead with that trade and take a cornerback.
if we feel like we can get the guy (or one of the 2 guys) we want at 9, sure. slavery to the value chart is dumb.
I would love to trade down at all, and while a discount might be necessary to move down, we would save serious money and still be able to get a guy we want now but is a reach, and pick up a guy later on that we want. Or it would be some trade up ammo for the second or third if we want to move up to secure a guy who falls.
Agreed. The pick value chart has some merit, but the true value of the pick is based on the player, not a spreadsheet. For that reason I would trade pick #6 for "less than full value" if McFadden, Gholston and both Longs are gone. In general a 4th rounder is a little too light IMO for pick #6. I'd at least try to nab a second pick involved.
Depends on who is still there. They will probably take Ryan if he is. If he's gone too then I might move down. Thing is Cincinnati has no reason to trade up at all. They can use a DT, Ellis or Dorsey and get them at 9 anyway. We won't take them, NE won't and Baltimore won't either.
The Ravens are a more likely trading partner (if Ryan is still available) than the Bengals. A team in need of a RB (Carolina?) may be interested if McFadden falls to 6 (assuming the Jets don't want him badly). I wouldn't think of trading down unless the offer is great or both Longs and Gholston are gone. I can't make up my mind about McFadden, and I'm not sure the Jets really need Dorsey or Ellis with Jenkins and a 3-4 (and I wouldn't take Ryan at 6). How about trading the 6th pick and and a 4th round pick for the Ravens or Bengals 1st and 2nd round picks? Mike
I would do the trade for less than chart value, and I think that this is a pretty likely scenario if we trade. If we don't want who's left around #6, and the guy we want isn't expected to go until later in the 1st, why wouldn't you. As others have mentioned, use two of the 4th rounders to try to get back into the 3rd. You get the best deal you can and move on. Worrying about the chart is silly.
We are the New York Jets not K-mart! If a team offers us less value than what our pick is we will not trade them the pick. We have been taking shorts for 39 years. If anything they will overpay for the pick. Gholston. Mcfadden or a Cb will be there to be picked at six so why should we take less?
Based on Tannenbaum's "hondling" abilities, the word "discount" isn't even in his vocabulary. We'll probably trade out and make the OTHER team give us a discount... and when it's all over, they'll be standing there going, "WTF did we just do?" LOL
