That's why you aren't a scout. He was the number 1 high school player in the country. The top recruited kid in the country. Everybody who does scout must have seen something in him.
We really are trying to find the next great starter. If no one pans out this year i would expect us to continue to workout every QB in every draft to come.
i'd be cool with having him in tc for qb competition. pennington/clemens/simms wouldn't be a great trio but still better than last season. no true #1 franchise guy but three competent qb's.
Thats what I'm hoping for. Clemens, draft pick, Pennington/Simms as the vet competition. The only problem with Pennington be part of the equation is that he has history here, and he has produced on occasion. Clemens does as well but it's nothing to write home about, crappy OL aside. A competition between Clemens, Simms, and a draft pick would almost guarantee that the best man would win the job. Whatever though, they just need to get it worked out before the season starts.
He was a below average qb before the injury. He has even admitted that the injury affects his throwing motion. If the bucs who dont have a great qb situation release him, what do you think he can bring to us?
A warm body to compete or push what we currently have. It's a low risk move, if he doesn't pan out he's back on the unemployment line.
now i remember he had a burst appendix or spleen during a game 2 years ago i think. is this the injury everyone is referring to? he actually from what i remember had played fairly well just prior to that injury, i think he could definitely be a servicable qb, i would prefer to see him as a backup but if we can bring him in cheap and move pennington i would actually be very much for it. especially with a rookie in the 2nd or 4th this year (depending on if andre woodson is still there come our 4th round, which i have NO IDEA if he would be)
Pennington's going to win the starting job. He's smart and it's still his team. He's charasmatic, a terrific leader and he sells Toyota Tundras on the official NYJ website. I'm not ready to declare Clemens buckle scrubby just yet. In fact, I feel like I'm in the minority but I think Clemens is going to be pretty good. I've always liked Simms, just not Chris. He's not part of the equation.
PENNINGTON > clemens Now that we have an offensive line, Chad will have time to throw, when given time he can make all the throws in Schotty's playbook. And don't tell me he can't, I watched him throw a 60 yard bomb to Santana Moss against SD in the playoffs WITH A TORN ROTATOR CUFF. I could also bring up the more recent bomb to Coles against Cinn last year but I think I have made my point. Chad is smarter, a better leader, the team believes in him and now will have time to throw. But like I said, the competition this summer will prove I am right. Never bet against Chad, never.
Simms Chris Simms was on his way to becoming an elite NFL QB before the unfortunate injury to his spleen... On paper? He's better than Chad or Kellen.
elite?..really? i can't agree with any of that, but it doesn't matter...b/c i think there is little chance he lands in NY...i think if we look to add anyone it will be a rookie at this point...i think they actually plan on keeping chad a team that should show interest in simms? Miami...there is a connection and the qb situation in miami is lacking
No doubt i would take a shot with him if we dont draft a QB this upcoming draft. I would take his potential over Tui's any day. My first choice is to draft a QB but if not I would take Simms as the #3 QB this year.
They got a much better situation then us they got currently on roster 5 QB's and the rights to Jake Plummer if they ever talk him out of retirement Jeff Garcia Bruce Gradkowiski Brian Griese Luke McCown Chris Simms
It doesn't. The comment was in response to you saying you never saw anything in him. Obviously, everybody else did.
