I called into his show on NFL Radio and asked about the JETS upcoming draft. 1. He seems pretty convinced that we would take McFadden if he is available, he thinks the Raiders have some interest but not as much as we do. 2. He says that Tannebam went to his Pro Day today and that he and McFadden walked off the field together after it was over. He says the Jets have invested alot of time and money in doing their homework on McFadden, which has been reported on this board previously.... 3. He thinks that Dallas will not trade up to get him, that they are targeting a CB and WR with their 2 picks in the 1st. Says the price is much too high to trade up. 4. Finally, he thinks that McFadden will make a great pro and is not worried about any off the field issues with him... Take it for what it's worth... I do think Gil Brandt is usually spot on and he has a ton of connections still in the NFL- scouts, GM's, etc... Having a 3 headed monster with McFadden, Jones and Washington running behind our revamped line would be pretty sweet!!!
theres insane depth at RB this yr. they dont have another pick till the 4th right? maybe they go RB 4th someone will slip out of the 2nd or 3rd. fargas put up solid numbers behind a horrid offense and theyll prolly go gholston at 4 to bolster the only bright spot on the team. i mean i expect mcfadden at 4 but there is plenty of logic for them to pass on mcfadden from a football standpoint. but al davis is al davis. but i do hope he falls to us to be honest. people are talking so much trash about him he'll be good.
I agree with your logic, dude.....but the "monkey in the wrench" here is Al Davis....he doesn't know how to draft by "need"...only by "want" :drunk:
If any team would select a player not based on need, it would be the Raiders... Are they going to release LaMont Jordan? If so, who else do they have besides Fargus (who actually played quite well until he got nicked up)???
I spoke to my neighbor Ray and Sufi the coffee girl today. They think the Jets are moving UP for McFadden. Ray and Sufi > Gil Brandt
Well that's good news. Bush was a 2nd round pick if I remember correctly so maybe they will stay put with what they have and pass on McFadden. Being a UK fan and seeing a ton of SEC games, I would be real excited if the Jets call his name on draft day. I've seen him play a dozen times or so and the guy has off the charts talent. It would then be up to the coaching staff to use that talent in the best way possible for the Jets.
I'm not saying I don't think we won't pick McFadden (or will), but this regime has been ridiculously good at hiding who they'll pick. In '06 we were talking about Mario Williams, Leinart, Cutler, Bush, D'Brick, Vernon Davis, Hawk, and Ngata up to draft day. Only Williams was eliminated because he was announced basically the night before. In '07 Revis was talked about, but many thought we were going to go OL (Grubbs, Sears, even Staley) or or front 7 (Spencer, Harrell, Carriker). Revis joined the conversation later, but I don't think anyone called we'd be the team that traded up for him.
I see what you are saying, but I do remember Adam Schein about a week before the draft last year saying he was hearing that the Jets were looking to trade up for a CB... He had to get that information from somewhere, whether it be the Jets Organization, Revis' agent, or someone else...
The Raiders have come pretty close to releasing Lamont Jordan, having him around isn't going to keep them from selecting a talented halfback like McFadden. Bush is talented but coming off serious injuries, and again, not likely to keep them from taking McFadden. Fargas just isn't anything special. The Raiders have talent on defense but little on offense. They could certainly improve their defense by adding Gholston or Ellis, but if they do their offense is going to continue to suck. I think adding McFadden makes a lot of sense for the Raiders. Claiming that they would be ignoring need, but that we would be fools to pass on him, is hard to fathom; would you really feel more comfortable with Lamont Jordan, Michael Bush and Justin Fargas than with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington?
Bush was a 4th rounder. And yeah I find it hard to believe the Raiders will pass on McFadden if he is there. Al Davis has too much money invested in his defense and McFadden is everything he wants in a player. Flasshy, playmaker.
Well, I remember it was discussed as a possibility because the Steelers were a lock to pick Revis at 15...but I don't think anyone thought they'd do it. Plus, our second round moves have been shocking but never knocked...a very good sign.
dude...i know this is off topic fftopic: but what happened to that fine avatar you were sporting over the last little while....Sasha Grey wasn't it?
I think our draft last year was absolutely brilliant. Talk about quality over quantity!!! I am hopeful that this year's draft goes about like it did last year, and that's finding quality starters whoever they may be... I have complete faith in who is running the show.
I am sure if Dan Marino is on the board, there is no way the Jets will pass... I am sure if Warren Sapp is on the board, there is no way the Jets will pass... I am sure if Ed Reed is on the board, there is no way the Jets will pass...
