Jets To Meet With McFadden, Again…

Monday, March 24th 2008, 9:38 pm by Gary Grund
According to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, the Jets officials are scheduled to attend Arkansas RB Darren McFadden’s Pro Day workout in Arkansas on Tuesday. The team officials plan to meet with McFadden after the drills.

This comes one week removed from the Jets sending a group of team representatives to Arkansas to meet with the junior runningback last week.

This isn’t all. The Jets have also scheduled McFadden to visit the team in New York on April 16th, one day after h is scheduled to visit with the Rams in St. Louis.

Take it for what its worth...

If we take him, and no one else we want is available fine... but i really see this as enticing Jerry Jones to move up to our spot with the 2 #1's and a 3rd. That will enable us to take BPA at both positions or have full flexibility in the 1st rnd to do what we want- plus have that missing 3rd rounder.

Tangini realize that they need a homerun threat on offense after shelling out all that loot to rebuild the O-line and if you get this guy to the 2nd line of the defense you have the offensive ROY.

I can see Jerry Jones being so worried about our interest and thinking that we won't trade with him that he trades into the #5 spot to get him.

I think the idea is to be really into DMC and then when Jerry inquires to us at 6:

we say "well we love him, but i see you love him more... how are those 1st round picks doing?"

Jerry will say "ok, 22 and 28- i'll throw in a 3rd to make it even"

And then Mike X-mas goes "Jer, you got yourself a deal- part'ner"

and then BOOOMM-- we gotsa two picks in round 1, get us a purdy skill position players- or trade back up and get us a guy like Merling or Harvey in the mid-teens... and then we gotsa built team fer somethin.. like da playoffs!!!!! wooooo playoffs!

Thanks for da picks jerry... you dun make me a playoff team!!

Nothing fake about this. They obviously have interest, they would be fools not to. There is also more questions about him than some of the others so the more opportunities to talk to him the better feel they will get about whether they want him or not.

tangini just not leaving any stone unturned and getting all the information they need to make the right pick... I'm sure we will have several other players meet with us this much as well.

For it getting out to the media, I would definitely say its a ploy to let all the teams know that we will take him if we aren't offered a good trade for our #6 pick.

Nobody has the goods to make an offer but Dallas. We won't be interested in any future picks, not this year. Even then we would have to be positive we could get two players at 22 and 26 that would have as much of an instant impact as McFadden would.

can't agree with you on that. JJ would'nt be dealing with us for dmc, at#6, because he'll never get past the raiders at#4

I actually think it will be a lot harder for Gholston to fall to us than McFadden.

there are several reasons to thuroughly eveluate him.

1- if he is the only player left at #6, do we take him?
2- is he better than what we could get for a 22,23, and a 3rd?

    every stone unturned.

If Dallas is as interested in moving up for McFadden as everyone on here seems to suggest they aren't going to sit around and wait till 6 to move up. I'm so sick of hearing about trading with Dallas, it is not going to happen fellas, forget it we are not getting 2 first round picks this year.

Of course the Jets are interested in DMac, he is a super freak talent and every team in the top 6 is checking him out, just as they are with all the other top prospects. It is a no brainer if one of the 3(C Long, Gholston, DMac) are available, they will be selected. It gets a little more tricky if two of them are available end even more so if none of them are left.

I agree, this "fake interest" that the Jets are showing in McFadden isn't going to make a trade with Dallas more likely...it'll make Dallas more likely to trade up in front of us to ensure that they'll get him.

I think the Jets are seriously interested in McFadden. Although many of you seem to want to deny it, McFadden would be great value at #6, and could be a potential game-changing player. This team is not in the position to draft for need, they need to take BPA at every slot.

Exactly, this is real intrest. Putting him onto a team that now has a legit top 5 line is a recipie for Godliness. If he is there at 6 and we dont take him, I will be unbelievably pissed.

Problem is this regime has never taken the BPA at any slot. Don't expect them to start now.

How can you say Revis and Harris werent the BPA's at their draft locations from last year? And that Mangold wasnt the BPA at #29 2 years ago? I can see the argument against Dbrick because Vernon Davis and A.J. Hawk were on the board at the time, but Mangold was BPA at 29 at least thats my particular opinion...

    1. The Jets are interested in McFadden. They have spent the offseason filling obvious holes and, in so doing, have put themselves in position to draft the best available player at 6. If McFadden is available at 6, he certainly will be among the one or two best available players at that time.

    2. I do not expect McFadden to be available at 6. I expect the Raiders to grab him at 4. The Raiders have spent a lot of money bolstering the defense in the offseason. None of their running backs are that good (and they will release Jordan before the season). McFadden would give the Raiders a breakaway threat and also take some heat off Jamarcus Russell who will be learning how to play QB.

    3. If the Cowboys are desparate to get McFadden - and I'm not sure they are given how good Barber is at running back - they are more likely to try to trade up with the Raiders, who have even more needs than the Jets and spent a ton of guaranteed money on last year's number 1 pick (so they probably would be even more interested than the Jets in trading down if possible).

    4. Even if the Cowboys were interested in trading up with the Jets, why would they do it before the draft? If McFadden is gone before 6, they probably would not be interested in the Jets' pick anyway (and, as indicated above, McFadden is likely to go at 4). If McFadden was available at 6, I think it would take the Cowboys picks at 22 and 28, and at least their 3rd round pick, to get the deal done (Jets currently have no 3rd round pick). Suggestions that the Jets trade 6 for 22 and 28 would not be fair to the Jets (it would be one thing if the Cowboys' picks were higher - 22 and 28 is a big drop from 6).

    5. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am the Jets are going to go for Gholston at 6, and offense (WR) in Round 2. I probably would take either Long ahead of Gholston, but they probably will be off the board by 6.

    6. If the Jets are not that crazy about Gholston, I could see them trading down from 6 to the teens, and pick up an extra 2 or 3 in the process. That way, they could get one of the premiere DBs, LB and WR. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking.

if he's available when the jets pick they would be crazy not to take him. even if they have minimal interest they can always sign and trade. i'm sure there are a bunch of teams interested.

The way I see it is, the teams in front of us haven't done nearly as much in FA, therefor, need their top 5 status more than we do to get an impact player. Parcells being the exception because he's in the 'honeymoon phase' right now in Miami, so anything he does will be treated as the 'right' move.

Because our FA was so active, I think D MAc could be seen as a luxury pick, maybe enticing Dallas to trade with us.
