    Patriots eyeing OSU linebacker
    Posted: Thursday March 20, 2008 05:45AM ET

For a few hours yesterday morning, the Patriots explored the possibility of having Buckeye bookends in their linebacker corps, as they put Ohio State's Vernon Gholston through a private workout in Columbus, Ohio. The 6-foot-3-inch, 266-pound Gholston is considered one of the top prospects available in next month's draft. Although he played mostly defensive end at Ohio State, he would project as an outside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 scheme, where he would likely line up opposite fellow Buckeye Mike Vrabel. The Patriots, who have the seventh overall selection, schedule numerous private workouts leading up to the draft. The workouts don't necessarily indicate surefire interest, but it does reflect that more information is being sought before making a determination.

Sooooo, do we pick him ahead of them and make them cry or do we take another available prospect and let him slip???????????

Who's Hall? And if you mean DeAngelo, why would Oakland trade him after giving him a 7 yr. $70M contract with $24M in guarantees?

Looking at who they have lost and the fact they didn't sign anybody in FA this year the Pats could end up with 4 3rd round comp picks. Watch them trade up over us using some of those picks.

    You can't trade compensation picks.

I highly doubt that. It's not easy to get a 3rd via comp picks.

Samuel might get them a 3rd... Gay will get them a 5 or 6th... Alot of 7ths for everyone else.

Samuel definitely brings a 3rd, Stallworth probably does too. Gay probably a 4th but who knows and I forget who the other loss was. Didn't they have 3 3rds last year and I can't remember anybody they lost as big as these guys.

    Because they are compensation picks.

...and compensation picks for free agency this year aren't handed out until next year's draft.

Oh ok, but you can trade comp picks once you have them, correct? I misunderstood what you were saying.

You can't trade them. Not sure exactly why, but you're not allowed.

You cant trade comp picks, but there actual pick is probably only 2 slots ahead because of there record. So it would just free up their regular pick. If there is a player they love, I think KC would cut a deal in a second.

exactly what i was thinking.those pricks, i mean pats always seem to get things to fall in thier laps.
i think they should have had to surrender the 7th pick, and move to the last pick in the first round, for the spy gate issue. i say we camp out by gisele's house and kick the shit out of brady when he comes to see her!

Well, i'd have to ask which other prospect is available?
I'm not trying to derail this thread, but, what if the following scenario unfolded?

New York Jets are now on the clock...

    Available Players:
    Darren McFadden
    Vernon Gholston

New England Patriots Next on the Clock

I fear if the Draft somehow, someway unfolds this way, it's gonna be a tough call.
