I love Coles, as a person. I was never super fond of him as a player. So why are we signing this guy when Rhodes is clearly the guy we need to lock up no question. He is the guy so I am confused why when Kendal who could play, was not given a contract extension but coles who cant really play to his fullest extent is getting a contract extension. Its crazy I cant belive he picked Coles over Rhodes

I agree, but put quite simply, Coles is a "team captain" and has a history of being the proverbial "squeeking wheel."

Hopefully, Tanny can get this behind us by Friday and move on to Rhodes, who is going to (or should) command more money than Coles.

Who says he picked one over the other? As soon as Coles is done, he will probably start with Rhodes, if he is not doing so already.

  5. Coles is more valuable to this team than Kendall ever was. And I'm an O-line guy.

What's with the one dimensional thinking? Rhodes will get his due.

Yes, this is all about picking one player over another.

There is no reson to get all melodramatic about it. You sound more like a gilted teenage lover then a football fan.

The Rhodes deal has been reported as far apart from the begining. I'm sure they are working on things, but are not closing the gap at this time. Its not about his choice of player, but what he is able to do with the available money around. This should change when the DRob situation works itself out.

If we are unable to lock Rhodes up to a long term deal we still have him for two more years plus his franchise year. Plenty of time to draft a replacement, or finish a long term deal, if he's looking to be come the one of the highest piad safteys in the league.

I have always looked at Coles just the opposite as you. As a player, he's more than earned his money as a 3rd round pick. He comes to play every Sunday and plays as hard as anyone. He doesn't take downs off.

As a person, he leaves a lot to be desired. He did get caught stealing clothes from a department store in college, then he ran as fast as he could for the $$$ Washington flashed (calling the Jets offer insulting). He cried loud enough to get traded back to the Jets in order to get a new contract after only two years. And here he is again, two years later, crying for a new deal. Again, love him as a player, but personally think he's a greedy douchebag.

He didn't run as fast as he could for the money, he left because he was utterly disrespected with a BS contract offer for a guy coming off a career season at age 25. They gave him an offer similar to Chrebet's( who was mostly washed up at this point and wouldn't have started for any team at the time)while Peerless Price ended up getting something absurd. I think it's been established who the better receiver is. It was clear then. If I were Coles, I'd have been mad as hell.

OK, so that explains the first contract. But it doesn't excuse his barking at the very contract he signed with Washington after only two seasons. And he wasn't so mad at the Jets that he refused to consider coming back. And now he's at it again.

    Guys,
As a player Coles comes out every game and gives 125% and is a leader for this team. He has had no off the field issue since that stupid stunt at FSU.....

While no fan or I suspect the Jets F/O likes this crying to the media, the Jets should have learn a lesson from Kendell last year. I don't know what is being said to these guys behind closed doors. I don't know if people are misspeaking or the players are misunderstanding what is being said to them. Yet, Coles is the second player we have heard from who mentioned that promises were made to him and he was lied to.

Last year we all though Kendell was just crying to get more money and his was an isloated situation. Now we have Coles who at the end of last season mention how he was happy with this club and looked forward to retiring a Jet. To him going to the media saying something is wrong and folks are lying to him, to me this is becoming a pattern.

So while not happy how this whole situation went down, maybe there's more here then we are being allow to know or see. Just maybe, both side got a little off track and distracted by things that should never have been allow to come into play. I am just glad that this situation will not linger and will be resolved a.s.ap.

Once Coles is out of the way, Rhodes must become the Jets next major pirority and I am hoping the Jets can have him taken care of before the Draft. He is young and both a present and future star for this team, pay him as such. If that means making him one of the best paid safetys in the game so be it, he's worth it...

After him, sit down with Baker and his agent and see what can be worked out on a long term deal for Chris......

He hasnt paid Rhodes yet because hes not a greedy person. He plans on paying Rhodes, and knows he wont bitch the way Coles has, so hes handling the whiney bitch first.

I think I remember hearing earlier in the offseason that talks between rhodes and the Jets had begun, but that they were far apart on a deal.

If that is the case (and if my memory is correct), then Jets fans can be upset about
RE-EXTENDING an injury prone, 30 year old WR before they resign one of their best players and a future star at Safety.

I am sorry...Coles shouldn't get paid AGAIN (greedy bastard), before a player like Rhodes who has done everything right.

I hate Coles and that will not change if and when he has a decent to above average year.

I think Tannnenbaum knows what hes doing- Coles will be an important part of the team for the next 2 or 3 years and Rhodes is an absolute beast of safety. Tannenbaum will take care of business, make Coles happy and lock Rhodes up.

Rhodes may take some time because Im sure his agent realizes that Rhodes is arguably the number one safety in football but Tannenbaum has leverage because Rhodes hasnt been recognized once as a Pro Bowler.

Coles does not need to be defended. He has earned his keep. Otherwise the NYJ FO would not be doing this.

    Nuff said.
