The should have locked up Hutchinson before he became a free agent. Teams that wait on their own free agents always wind up either paying a truly ridiculous sum to keep them or they lose them in free agency. Note to Jets: if you wait on Kerry Rhodes much longer you are going to have to make him the highest paid defensive back in history to keep him.

Well maybe that's exactly what Rhodes and his agents are after. Even if the team's offer may be deemed fait at the time it is presented, it would be a useless exercise if Rhodes and his agent stick to their goal of being the highest paid defensive back in the league.
