Quote: "...NFL | Schilens works out at Pro Day Wed, 12 Mar 2008 20:31:17 -0700

J.J. Pesavento, of Next Level Scouting, reports San Diego State WR Chaz Schilens measured a height of 6-foot-3 7/8 and a weight of 208 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds and 4.39 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.14 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.82 seconds. He measured a 43-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-3 broad jump and completed 16 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press..."

    Not bad, huh?

Exactly.....I guess I missed the part in my own post where I said we should pick him at number 6.....but it's no surprise that if you don't explain every point at a grade 2 level, someone will take it the wrong way.

He could certainly be a good 6th or 7th round pick and mayne even a UFA....I am willing to bet he will get drafted. I just hope the Jets look further into him after this performance.

The reason why Chaz's numbers suck are he missed 4 games this year due to a stress fracture on his foot.

Up until the latter part of this year, when he went nuts, Chaz has been very unproductive. Not cuz of his QB, who is also a 2nd day prospect. With his physical tools, Chaz was still the #2 WR behind Brett Swain, who is a FA prosepct at best. I think part of that has to do with Chaz playing one year of organized football before college. The guy had to learn to play football. Which isn't so easy to do even in the MWC.

He did come on strong the last part of 2007 vs. the MWC top teams. Was it a fluke or was it him finally learning to play? Either way, his tools make him worthy of a 7th round pick. You can't pass up 4.38 speed on a 6'4 frame.

FYI, you don't need a combine showing to get drafted. Matt McCoy, another San Diego State alum was uninvited to the combine coming out of SDSU. He was drafted in the 2nd round by Philly.

Why are people acting like he's being talked about as a high round pick and that every player we draft should have ridiculous upside *and* be a complete 100% lock to reach his highest upside.

He's a late round guy who will be drafted on upside, if he's drafted at all. The same can be said of the many other non-1st day locks in this and any draft.

I started the thread because I think he is someone that might go unnoticed, leaving him available to use later on day 2. Listening to Gil Brandt on NFL Radio, he'll likely go 6th round, 7th round, or undrafted. However, after his Pro Day and my email to NFL Radio which was read on the air, I have heard him mentioned twice more when talking to the scouting experts.
