Two ways to look at it. Woody Johnson is a cheap b**stard and the Jets have written off next year so Woody Johnson can show an actual cash profit for the first time he has owned the Jets. Or Tannenbaum is a genius! Jets | Contract update: M. Warren Tue, 28 Mar 2006 22:10:20 -0800 New York Jets FB Micheal Warren signed a one-year contract with a base salary of $275,000 in 2006. Jets | Contract update: von Oelhoffen Tue, 28 Mar 2006 22:03:19 -0800 New York Jets DL Kimo von Oelhoffen signed a three-year contract with base salaries of $950,000 (2006), $1.85 million (2007) and $1.7 million (2008). Jets | Contract update: T. Dwight Tue, 28 Mar 2006 22:02:51 -0800 New York Jets WR Tim Dwight signed a four-year contract with base salaries of $710,000 (2006), $720,000 (2007), $830,000 (2008) and $840,000 (2009). Jets | Contract update: Chatham Tue, 28 Mar 2006 22:02:24 -0800 New York Jets LB Matt Chatham signed a three-year contract with base salaries of $585,000 (2006), $720,000 (2007) and $730,000 (2008). Jets | Contract update: C. Baker Tue, 28 Mar 2006 21:59:46 -0800 New York Jets TE Chris Baker signed a four-year contract with base salaries of $800,000 (2006), $850,000 (2007), $1.0 million (2008) and $1.0 million (2009).
wow it didn't take too much to keep Baker around. I figured that he would have commanded a somewhat higher figure. Nice job of keeping the expenses down...
I wonder how much cap room we have remaining? We have been bringing in players, but they have all been relatively cheap.
Compare it to: Vikings | Contract update: Hutchinson Tue, 28 Mar 2006 20:02:50 -0800 Minnesota Vikings OG Steve Hutchinson signed a seven-year contract with base salaries of $585,000 (2006)
Im not trying to defend Woody but we have some high draft picks to sign and we cant forget that quality players do get released after June 1, so we should keep some cap room to sign any other players.
It's called backloading a contract...his salary will increase every season and eventually will have to restructure his contract.
I would have to say over 15 mill, but I am not sure. Someone like jetsin2004 would know a more acurate number.
What I'm talking bout is that the signing bonus is missing in each "contract update" which results in a "non information update".
Never overpay! Although those numbers show only half the puzzle the fact remains that we have enough cap room to still make a play on the bigtime FA's after June 1st. Its all you can ask for out of our new FO.
After the next season Kimo will be 36. I think it is clear that he is not the long term solution for a rebuilding team. Therefor it is clear the Jets gave him a contract that gives them a good position if they cut him next year
What are you talking about? a good position to cut him? Why would they cut him after 1 year? That would accelerate his signing bonus he just received onto next years cap. Most 35 year olds are not part of a long term rebuilding plan, Kimo will be a big part of implementing the 3-4 and teaching the 3-4. He's also one of the better 3-4 defensive ends in the league. He's not flashy but he has great technique. They interviewed Walter Jones before the superbowl and he talked about how he would have to be on his game to control Kimo. It's a great signing and the only reason the Steelers let him go was because Brett Keisel was waiting in the wings.
