    From Rotoworld & Newsday:

Jets coach Eric Mangini confirmed that Curtis Martin will be back with the Jets, but not necessarily as a starter.
"Curtis is going to be in the competition for the running back spot," Mangini said. Martin will take a paycut to stay, if he hasn't already. Cedric Houston is the only other viable running back currently on the Jets roster. Feb. 21 - 9:42 am et

Good to see Martin doing what is necessary to remain on the team. He is a class player and his knowledge can only help Houston or whoever the Jets get to split time with him.

That is good to know, he certainly deserves another chance.

And I will be surprised if someone beats him out this year. The guy is going to battle and come back this year and put in one last stellar year before he takes a back seat. He's got too much heart to go out on a low note like last year.

    We should all hope so...

I'm very happy that CMart made such a move. If only Pennington could learn a thing or two from Martin.

I agree that he will not sit down easily, but I also love the quote that he "is going to be in competition for the RB spot". Nothing is a given with this coaching staff, which is a big difference in what we've seen the last few years...

Look for Curtis (as long as we have a O line) to have a BIG year 1500+yds. This guy is all heart and will show us what he's made of. NO he won't break any 80 yd runs but he'll get his 90+ a game. Curtis still has some gas in the tank and I for one will be happy to see him in the back field come the home opener in September.

hey not to be negative but i wouldnt mind a friendly wager on that one....the jets might not rush for 1500 as a team, let alone curtis by himself

I agree Baamf, the best player should play. Starting spots should be open for competition all around each year. Keeps everyone on their game.

I got a great chuckle out of this... I too am looking to put a wager on this, considering I don't think Curtis will be the starter and will be lucky to be on the depth chart out of sheer respect for the man.

glad to see we're not running out cmart. Also glad to see he took a pay cut to stay., i want him to retire a jet, not this bogus one day contracts to retire in a few years. I cant see houston being the starter, i would imagine they are gonna get somebody...

Is blaylock gone? Why did they say martin and houston were the only 2 rb's on the roster?

Good. I also think that Mangini won't let Curt take down after down if he isn't helping the team, much like Herm did. But did I miss something? What about Blaylock?

I hope Blaylock gets cut... waste of Cap space and a roster position... hated the signing last yeart, and truly hope he gets cut.

It'd be actually cheaper if he is kept.

Every nickle and dime is important when they are $26 mil over the cap minus Law cut and J.Abe sign/trade.

If he isn't going to play, then why are we keeping him. We're already in a bad cap situation as it is. Everything we do will depend on the meeting between Condon and MR. T If Penny takes a major cut, we'll try to keep some vets, if not, it's wholesale blowout, and everyone should cover there ass...

I prefer the later, get rid of all the aged Vets and holdovers, and guys not signed by the new GM/HC combination that didn't perform worth a squat last year, Blaylock being one of them. They should have him restructure as well, since he played like 4% of the plays for the entire year last year. The guys just earning a paycheck being on the roster... gone.

I want our roster to be filled with people who have a specific role, and know it and excell at it. We don't have that by any stretch of the imagination right now... so take the cap hell this year, sign a ton of youth, FA rookies and work from there.
