I disagree entirely. Although Clemens may have the arm, he looked like someone who has absolutely NO IDEA how to play a football game. Threw absolutely TERRIBLE passes for INT's.

I think some here are so upset with Penningtons lack of arm strength, that they're willing to take ANYONE with a cannon, regardless of whatever skills they may or may not possess.

    Let's put this into perspective:

    FACT:
Pennington is NOT Mangini's guy...Clemens is. After all he drafted Clemens.

    FACT:
Nobody saw this coming...meaning, the shopping spree that happened over the last couple of days....which means, the Jets are capable of anything....which could mean a trade up to get Matt Ryan....i know it sounds far fetched...but then again, Pace is getting 21 million guaranteed.

    FACT:
Pennington was benched last season...he will not get a second chance...that's long gone.

    FACT:
If Clemens shits the bed this season...I expect the Jets to go after a franchise QB in the 2009 draft...because i'm sure Tangini will be kicked to the curb.

Ummm Clemens was too busy running for his life behind that shoddy O-line last season....how do you expect to evaluate his skills when he's being chased like that....at least you know he can scramble for extra yards...something that Noodle Arm couldn't do either.

These are all clearly opinions with the exception that Clemens was drafted by Mangini & Co. Nice try though.

You can if you actually watch him play objectively and situationally. I was one of Chad's biggest supporters on this board up until the 2006 season. The year we made the playoffs with Mangini. I watched and saw a guy who could not get much done anymore. I'm done defending Chad. He's a great guy but his arm is not even halfway effective enough anymore.

what's with all the Chad hate on this site?
    it borders on personal.
Guy put his all into this franchise, and was one of the most successful QB's in Jets history (which admittedly doesn't say too much).

Clemens will get his shot to take over the team this year.
I hope he does it, as it makes for a better future.
If he can't go, Chad will get the call again.

it's not a matter of hating Chad...the guy is a model team player that plays with guts, accuracy and precision.....I guess people are sick and tired of the sub-par arm strength, the game-changing interceptions, and the dink-and-dunk offensive philosophy that you must adopt with a QB like Chad.

I don't hate Chad. But, I will be pissed again when I see him fade back and throw a 3 yarder, then here all the excuses on why he can't throw it long..

Your avatar makes me laugh every time I see it.

  11. I actually agree. Why can't people let go of the infatuation w/ Chad.

Let Clemens develop for god sake.

You can get to a SB with defense and a running game.

    *Dilfer and the Ravens
    *RothlesBergerVonBerger and the Steelers
    *insert other team here

It looks like we will have both. Whom ever can manage the game, not cause turn overs and throw up the occasional play...I'm in to.

I love Chad but I think if Kellen can do those things, he has a better chance to air one deep once in awhile.

Clemens will get his shot this year.
If he isn't getting it done in training camp, Chad will be the starter, and we make QB a priority in 09 draft.
That simple. Not sure why this topic strikes such nerves.

Only argument which makes sense is whether we try to draft QB this year, rather than wait to 09.

Whats funny is that, despite his 3 yarders, he still had a higher YPA than did Clemens.

    YPC is a different story.

    Pennington 179 - 1,765 - 9.86
    Clemens 130 - 1529 - 11.76

And the fact that Clemens was playing with Chad's playbook last season(anyone that didnt see that was blind).
Kellen's arm, and feet willl open up the playbook next season and we will see alot of different passing plays coming from our offense.

Chad is done in NY guys, give it up.

At least give Clemens a shot

Pennington had one good year or so. Hugely inconsistent. And unfortunately for him he was a product of Herm Edwards conservative offense which allowed his no-armed ass to attempt a career.

I'm hoping the 'Baum will trade Chad at the draft for a juicy 2nd or 3rd round draft pick....the Vikes and Chiefs could be suitors.

There is no such thing as "Chad's Playbook". It's the NY Jets Playbook.

Now if you want to say that the half ass protection both QB's got last year resulted in more dump-offs and short passes that is all well and good.

The best player will likely be the one to start. If Chad sucks as bad as some of you want to make him out to, then I hope like hell Clemens beat him out at camp or we are really screwed, eh?
