dude 3 years for 27 Million? What a fucking rip off. Pats are making off like thiefs for that. I wish this guy would just hold their nuts to the fire and demand some real paper. He could easily get a 5 for 45 or 50 type deal with any team... This is most likely gonna be his last big contract too. He's 31, what type of deal is he gonna get as a 34 year old? His agent needs to get him a 5 year mega-deal type thing. Either he REALLY likes playing for the pats or he's getting some terrible advice. If I was Polian I would step up and offer him a little more change than that. What could be better than playing with Peyton Manning if your a reciever. And the Colts could really use him as well.
I don't see why he wouldn't sign. He's staying with the team that got him his record, and with a team that has a great shot to make another SB run. Plus he gets a ton of money. What's not to like?
Obviously he knows that he could command more money on the open market, but he was happy in New England. To me, him taking a discount deal like this is the final confirmation that he actually is a different person than he was earlier in Minn. He could have shown up, said all the right things and been a model citizen and explosive player for one year before cashing out and reverting to his previous ways, but instead he took a hometown discount. I'm sure everyone that supports the Vikings and Raiders would agree with me that Randy Moss is a class act:wink:.
It is just very infuriating as a division rival to see Belliscum and co taking advantage and low balling him so hard. He should make em pay a little more and take the deal.
Can Moss actually generate more money elsewhere? The problem with him is that for him to be productive everything else appears to need to be in place. Where else is he going to go where they are going to be willing to pay him, where he's actually going to be useful? Playing for the Pats was easy for him. First rate offense there and Brady throwing the rock. If he goes to a team that is not so solid and he actually has to work I think it really increases the teams risk on signing him. Why would anyone else want to overpay a guy known for not working his hardest... because he had a banner year for the Pats who sported one of the best offenses in the league?
No, he definitely had a market. Sure, it was an ideal situation this year, BUT HE BROKE THE NFL RECORD FOR TOUCHDOWN RECEPTIONS. He's a freak and most teams would love to have him, the only issue was if he would actually hit the market. Since no real offers emerged from other teams, it appears that Moss was set on returning.
Wait, NE asks Brady to take a cut...and then gives Randy 9 mil a year? I guess Moss is more important to the franchise.
Not to downplay the significance, but he had the guy who broke the TD passing record the same year throwing him the ball. If it wasn't Moss with the record it could have been Stallworth or Welker for that matter... someone had to catch all those balls of Tom's. :grin: Staying in New England is a no brainer for Moss.
Moss got jobbed by the Pats here. So, next season, when he and the team are less successful, which is inevitable when you win 18 games, lets see if he starts bitching about how he's being used and whether he turns it off for a while. It could happen. He sure wasn't trying too hard at the end of the super bowl, for whatever reason.
Moss took a giant paycut to come to New England in the first place....why is everyone so shocked that he took a discount this time? If I'm not mistaken, this contract is about the same annual salary as he was getting in Oakland before he came here....maybe even a mil or so less. I think it is obvious at this point that he wants a ring more than money, and he believes the Pats give him the best chance to get it. I am a little surprised that Indy was never in the running....I guess they are so hard up on the cap, they couldn't do it.
I really don't think Randy had much of a market. Indy can't possibly sign another receiver for big money with Harrison, Wayne, Clark and Gonzalez eating up lots of cap space. I think that most teams thought his return was a foregone conclusion and never factored make a run at Moss into their offseason plans. So, when Moss decided to test the market a bit, I really don't think he generated that much interest. Just because he had one of the best season for a WR ever, doesn't mean people forget about the prior couple of years in Oakland where he dogged it because they weren't winning. So, that would pretty much knock out most non-playoff teams right there. Furthermore, not many teams have the credibility at head coach and QB that the Pats do whic was key in keeping Moss in check. Philly is one, Indy another, maybe JAX? That's about it.
Or maybe, Indy believes in paying their franchise(ie manning) Brady has been screwed 3 times by NE...only time will tell if he stays
