Does Jake long play (or can) play RT? Imagine if the JETS could draft him to play the right side. The o-line could be nasty for quite some time. Then POSSIBLY nab the Mendenhall kid with their 2nd rd pick. If McFadden is available at 6, I'd make sure I have Jerry Jones' number on speed dial. He is a special talent, so I wouldn't be against drafting him at all, but overall there are better ways to improve this team IMO.
If we sign Pace: Trade down and take Kenny Phillips. Or pray to god Jake Long is available If not: Vernon Gohlston.
If McFadden is available it is becoming a no brainer. Depending on how the rest of FA plays out, heading into the draft our biggest weakness might be offensive playmakers. Everyone is jumping on the Mendenhall bandwagon but there is no bigger playmaker available in the draft than DMac. I have read alot of reports that McFadden has been facing his past issues head on which is a sign of maturity. The Jets have passed on too many HOFers because of reasons other than their football talent. The cannot make that mistake again. If McFadden makes it to six, he wont make it past six.
Well right now...I truly think the most realistic order is.. 1. Mia- Chris Long 2. Stl- Sedrick Ellis 3. Atl- Matt Ryan 4. Oak- vernon Gholston 5. KC- Jake Long So you may get your wish.. As for Mcfadden..w/ all the other improvements we've made for this team.. we can afford to go BPA at our pick. If anybody doesnt think DMAC is the BPA at that spot they are crazy. The reason so many are opposed to him is b/c he's been in the spotlight for too long, and people are beginning to harp on knitpicky flaws and forgetting the big play ability he brings. He'd be a fantastic asset to our offense.
What's ironic, is that before the Jets actually showed this desire to fill their needs and improve as a team, then McFadden was a lot more attractive to me. I think they're way to close to becoming solid across the board to take him now. At any rate, I'd prefer Stewart in the mid teens if they were dead set on taking a back.
McFadden and Jones, with a newly revamped O-Line... will devastate, and will compensate for Clemens growing pains, or Chad's soft tossing arm. It would be nice, for once, for the Jets to have dynamic game breaking players at skill positions.
I'm not ready to vote. I think we need to see exactly where our team is on draft day (if we get Pace, if we get a CB, etc) and also if there are any offers for our pick. So mark me down as undecided.
No The Jets Must Take Gohlston In Round 1 Then Draft Ray Rice In The 2nd Round!!!! That Is What The Jets Must Do!!!!!
plenty of good rb's available in the later rounds. i like our guy's, but i would'nt mind seeing rice in a jets uniform.i'd rather go for a big wide out. we really need to upgrade that position.
Trade down if Gholston's not there. Some team will pay a fortune for a shot at McFadden. We can get a RB with high upside later on in the draft, the depth this year is phenomenal.
Mcfadden is a no brainer if he's there. Stop overrating Gholston, if he's left with Mcfadden, Mcfadden by far is the better choice.
I'm simply not sold that DMC is the best RB in the draft. I was a huge Bush homer (as USC fan), but even I understand he's the best 3rd down back drafted in the top 5 in NFL history. Note, 3rd down back. Gamebreaker/changer, but at #6 I want an awesome football player that will be a Jet for 10 years. Jake Long is projecting as a RT. If he's there, that's the pick. Whether or not we sign Pace, we can likely get Groves with our high 2nd round pick. Suddenly we have one of the best OL's in the league, and we get our pass rusher. Those were our 2 biggest issues last season, and if we come out of round 2 with both of those issues addressed I will be ecstatic.
