Its much harder to spring a large psl on a loser team. If you look at teams that are getting new stadiums with a psl they do whatever it takes to make there teams competitive. Dont get me wrong I am very happy this team is bring in the players.
Well, it's one factor in the big picture. Ownership wants a successful team. What is success? W's and playoff appearances, which lead to increased merchandise sales, etc. Management wants a successful team so they can keep their jobs. it's all about the big picture. Threads like the one about whether Woody is cheap, just look to call out posters who may have said he was cheap in the past, and how he isnt now because he threw money at Faneca, are silly. to base an opinion on one transaction, either way, doesnt look at the big picture. Will the team have an easier time selling pricey PSLs if the team is successful? You betcha.
Think of yourself as a season ticket holder and instead of tailgating with your family and friends prior to entering the stadium, you need to get a proctology exam every Sunday to enter the stadium.
Cynicism and Pragmatism are different things. This is exactly why Woody is spending so much lately. We are two years away from playing in a state-of-the-art stadium. Woody recognizes this as a prime oppurtunity to turn a relatively mediocre product into a superior product. The NFL is a business, folks. Funneling money into the Jets right now is a good business decision.
The Jets have one of the longest waiting lists for tickets in the NFL and one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL. Do you really think that the Jets are worried that they may not sell out the season tickets in the new stadiuim, even with PSLs?????? Is that why the Giants decided to win the SB??? Without PSLs coming up, the Giants would have lost to Dallas like they were supposed to do. This is one of the most cynical ridiculous things I have ever heard
LOL It's a license fee that season tickets holders will have to pay to the team for the right to purchase their season tickets. it will likely be several thousand dollars, for what is right now an unspecifed time. And when the working people loudly complain about it, as they surely will, some suit will speak on behalf of the team and justify it by claiming that the fee will get rid of undesirables from attending the games and ruining it for the genteel, well-heeled crowd by their boisterous and unseemly behavior.
You can ignore the fact that the Giants actually did win the SB this year and the Jets went 4 & 12. You can ignore the fact that the stadium had very little buzz and was empty for many late season games. You can ignore the fact that we are going into a hard recession where disposable income on things like entertainment will be the first thing that's cut but if you own the Jets and ignore those facts it's at your own peril. The fact is the Jets want to charge top PSL dollar and get the absolute highest revenue for the stadium naming rights that they can. In order to do that they need a top quality product in this environment.
For the last time, the money for NFL player salaries comes from TV contracts, not from any profit that the team as a corporation makes. This is why the salary cap has gone up so dramatically, the new TV contract has made a lot of money for the NFL. PSL's have nothing to do with it!
My math goes like this. If the stadium comes in @ 1.3B that means Woody share is 650Gs & if you divide that by 80,000 seats that = $8,125.00 per seat to get Woody immediately even for his half of the expense of building the new stadium
Only big corporations will buy season tickets and then dole them out to their clients who will go to the game but not know enough about football to explain what a first down is. It's happening already. The fans at the Jets games are lame compared to other more "blue collar" cities. Present company excluded of course.
Yes I do. 5k for a PSL and I am done after 28 years and I would think a lot of people who are on the wating list would think twice, especially if we have another crappy season. THink about it, 5K per ticket for 5 years and then another 5k for the next 5 years. That's what the Giants are doing.
Yeah but it's those undesirables that make attending the games so much fun. If the only season ticket holders are the major corporations who will dole them out to their bigwigs and clients, then the games will just not have the same electricity in the air. There goes the 12th man.
For most NYers with a home, oil heat, 2 cars 5K is what their increase in utility costs are going to be over a 2 year period.
VERY true..... My cousins have had seats since SHEA. They were their dad's (who's ashes are sprinkled on the Meadowlands turf) tickets since we were kids. The commute to NJ has grown weary (and expensive) on them, and I'm sure another 20K+ in PSLs may lead to the releasing of their families tickets (and I'm sure many others as well) "Golf clap" stadium, here we come.
I think between the Psl's and Tangini knowing another 4 win season would cost them their jobs are the reasons for the spending spree. I think Woody also likes and trusts these guys.
youre point is totally irrelevant. the argument here is thaat woody needs a winner to sell the PSL's to the fans. what does that have anything to do with what particular revenue pays the players salaries?
