Now obviously every team wants to win now but realistically guys, i dont think they will be contenders next year, Jenkins will still be adjusting to nt a new lg and rt will have to mesh with the rest of our oline. We still need to adress issues with our wr. We still need to get at least 1 olb and maybe a ilb I'm just as excited as you guys about the splashes were making this year but realistically i think were are still a year away and in 09 we will become playoff contenders.
Every team is looking to win for the upcoming season, there really is no such thing as rebuilding anymore. You see too many teams go from bad to good and vise versa in one offseason nowadays.
we were really close in many games last year. i think they are looking to get better for the long haul, but be competitive in the short term
If we get fanaca and we can pick up a RT and OLB that can pass rush in the draft there is no reason we can't go .500 or better. However 2009 will be the real push for us. Cap wise we are very healthy and should be able to finish up the pieces for a real run in 2009.
It's all about the lines. I have a feeling we will be very competitive this year, but hopefully next year we will have one of those stellar O lines that mesh together well and the defensive mosaic will be complete.
Well...its the first freakin day into FA so its hard to tell....but if the Jets get: Jenkins Faneca Woody 2 or 3 role signings Gholston WR ILB Depth Via draft OL depth Via Draft another TE we will be one hell of a contender...solid O an D lines....our weakness in 07 just became our strength in 08
With the moves we are making so far everything looks promising. We still need to see what happens over the next few days. Filling the Gaurd spot is huge for us and we haven't done it yet. It looks likely, but not inked so not real. I wouldn't say we will be contending for a playoff bid yet for next year, but in the next week of FA and then we'll see what we get in the draft. After that we should be able to gauge whether we have a realistic shot at the playoffs; at least on paper anyway.
Dude we made the play offs with two rookies on the o-line, a rookie running back 2 years ago chill out.
With our fast start to FA, it's obvious we are looking to win now. The jets should be making a deep playoff run this season. It's year 3 of mangini's regime, time to make a run. Last yr's team was basically the same as the 06 team (since mangini didn't improve much last offseason), the difference between last season and 06 was we lost the close games instead of winning them. Now we are making the moves now that we should've made a year ago, meaning we should be expecting to build on a 10-6 type team and make a run.
Yeah, I could never understand the thinking that goes into even questioning that. It's like, "Well, I guesss we shouldn't win too much this year so we can save it all up for next year and win then." Uh.... NOOOOOOO? It doesn't work like that. We want to win NOW and next year and the year after that and keep on winning!
exactly what i was thinking. look at the team we're putting together. espn reports faneca agreed to a contract, we got our NT, pace is looking like he's gonna sign with us, and we still have to deal d-rob. hopefully we get some decent picks for him, and get gholston, or trade out for some more picks. i think we can pick up a tall wr, and add some line depth, on both sides of the ball. i'm leaving some cookies out for santa tonight. merry christmas everybody!!!
The Jets are making moves that make me think they are trying to not only make the playoffs, but maybe win a game.
The Jets are looking to win as soon as possible. The one key question mark with this team that isn't being addressed and probably won't be addressed is quarterback. If Clemens (or Pennington) steps up, this team can likely win now. If not, we'll likely have to wait a year. The QB play could be the difference in whether we're a playoff team or not.
Kellen Clemens is the starting quarterback for 08. You can absolutely write that down. Pennington stinks and the Jets know this. There creating this myth that hell be competing with Clemens for the starters role in the hopes that this increases his trade value. Pennington wont be on the team next season.
After these moves (plus maybe others), a schedule derived from a 4-12 season and a draft loaded with potential at the positions we need (OL, DE/LB, CB).....my brother, the glass is definitely half-full.
