Vilma for a 4th round pick. This does not make any f-ing sense. We messed up.

I bet you Saints fans are saying the Jets are f-ing retarded. How can a true middle linebacker that just not too long ago was a top 10 pick in the draft be traded for a wack ass 4th round pick.

Defensive Rookie of the year. Look at his resume. You mean to tell me his injury is outweighing his talent. I am a realist. We messed up. Vilma is my favorite player in the NFL and it is desrespectful for him to be worth a 4th round pick.

Whatever Mangini is doing better be right. This 3-4 shit is messing up this team. What an embarresment. If you disagree with me then you are a clown, and an irrational thinker.

I disagree with you, only for the simple fact that everyone on this board agrees you are devoid of any sort of knowledge.

Well honestly, if we were only getting a fourth, how the hell could we not get one this year? The fourth officially makes the Jets idiots, Vilma is more valuable to us if it's only for a year, than a fourth over a year from now...

I know everyone here loves Vilma and I do too but he fact is that he has not been a force since his rookie year and he is coming off major knee reconstruction. There is no guarantee that guy will ever physically be able to play to his old level let alone any level. So his market value is not as great as your personal admiration for him.

If this is true then its only if he doesn't play X number of snaps but if does play X number then the pick probably becomes a 3rd or 2nd....thats why its a conditional pick!

How is he more valuable? He didn't fit the defense. He is entering his walk year. He didn't play well before he was injured.

If that 4th rounder turns into Leon Washington or Kerrry Rhodes, what then?

I still woulda loved to see him play next to D.Harris in the 3-4 next to a MONSTER NT in Jenkins... And who knows, we may be drafting Gholston, Vilma coulda played great for us this year.

All in all, I will be rooting hard for Vilma, not for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick... But for Vilma... He is a classy player and a good player to root for

Yep, Mike and Mad Dog also said it was a 4th, and could be a 3rd if certain conditions are met.

After the bye week the Jets had the #4 defense in the NFL.

It's a conditional 4th round pick. If his kneee is done and he never plays a snap we get a 4th round pick. If plays all-pro we may get as much as a 2nd. Considering we get nothing at all if he stays, I'll take it.

I would agree that Vilma is definitely worth much more than a 4th rounder. Also I just wanna say he is one of my all-time favorite players on the field and off.
HOWEVER, I think there are two points that make this a somewhat fair trade:

    1) This could be made into a third rounder if he plays well in NO. Considering they are a 4-3 team, there is no reason he shouldn't flourish down there. If he can't play well there, theres no reason to think he would play well here. If he's injured and doesn't play enough time for it to become a 3rd rounder, then what use would he have had here.

    2) Its around what he is worth to the Jets. We can all agree that he has not been as productive as his earlier, punishing seasons. I think many would also agree that thats due to the 3-4 system we have. Although I would have been much happier with a 2nd rounder, TO US he is around a 3rd rounder.

Nah it should have been a 3rd rounder right now, and a 2nd rounder if he plays well.

We kinda got fleeced on this one.

We have no idea how bad Vilma's injury was and people have to remind themselves it's a CONDITIONAL PICK!!!!! Jesus what don't you guys get about that. If he is ruined because of the knee we get a fourth, if he does well which I hope he does we get a higher pick. It's a win win.
