Tanny needs to price Vilma at a premium. Vilma's value has gone down in our eyes because of his injury and his ill-fit in this system. When a healthy Vilma is placed in a 4-3 with good tackles, he will be a Pro Bowler and we will all be screaming if we do not got that kind of value back. Personally, as much as I want the NT, Rogers alone is too much of a risk. I want DET to give up a pick as well. Detroit's defense has been Horses--t. I think I'd rather get a 2nd rounder from them and pick-up a better DT prospect in the draft.
We're not trading the rest of Vilma's career for Rodgers or whomever or whatever else we get for him. We're trading the last year of his contract after which he becomes a UFA to the highest bidder. While he may return to pro bowl form, you can't expect top value for the one year of his services that we are offering. This especially true and compounded by the ?s surrounding his injury. Keeping him for another year would also seem to be an option. This would assure teams that he was healthy so one strike would be removed. Then, a franchise tag with a sign and trade would be possible. The problem with that is I fear the tag may have to be saved for Hollywood.
Yes, but teams know that he a) doesn't fit our system and b) his contract is up after this season. We won't get his value (because he is 1st round talent) but we shouldn't just give him away for free. Our best asset would be a bidding war between Carolina and Detroit for him.
Just gotta play him like you got him and see what happens. I think tommorow will tell a lot about what we are going to accomplish in FA. We will land a couple of guys tomorrow.
with matt millen as GM, i say we ask for thier first rounder(joke)! with that guy in charge, anythings possible!!!
We should put him on eBay and see what kind of value we can get for him. Who knows – maybe we need to look outside the (football) box for maximum value. Maybe he’s worth more to a farmer or president of a drug cartel or something than he is to another football team.
Vilma is going to be value at less becasue he has one year left on his contract, is comming off an injury, and everyone in the NFL knows we have no plans to keep him. As Murrell2878 said, that will change our asking price unless we can get more than one team bidding for his services.
I guessing the most the Jets will get if they trade with the Lions is Rogers and conditional pick next year, maybe a 3rd more likely a 4th if Vilma performs to certain level.
teams are scared just like we are with rogers...hes cant run at full speed yet..vilma is still a risky player to give alot up for
You can't do that for injured linebackers coming off two mediocre at best seasons. Finding a good 4-3 MLB isn't exactly hard for teams to do.
I think the NYJ would make a grave mistake to under-value Vilma. He has played hard for the NYJ all along. He may be ill-used with the way we have played him in the Mangini Hybrid 3-4/4-3. But he also may play a different game entirely when he lines up beside David Harris. I am not a great lover of Hobson and Barton. They are too slow for me as OLBs. We need more speed as OLBs.
The problem with Vilma is not the lack of performance in the 34 or the injury. Its the degenerative knee that many think is the real problem.
If Tanny values Vilma at a premium, Vilma is a Jet next year, and he's probably somewhere else not too long after, unless you think he can be an impact player in the 3-4.
everyone needs to stop with vilma and harris together,,,,VILMA WANTS TO BE A SUPERSTAR, HE DOES NOT WANT TO BE A SIDEKICK TO A 2ND YEAR PLAYER
Vilma has never given the impression of a selfish player. In fact he's been the exact opposite. There is no reason to believe he wouldn't play alongside Harris. It's just that it doesn't look like he is a 3-4 ILB and we need to move him for the better of us and him.
mediocre years? Everyone knows what Vilma is capable of. He is a former Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl player in the 4-3. You can get good value for him. Maybe not exactly what he's worth, but you can still get good value for him.
You can't do that for injured linebackers coming off two mediocre at best seasons. And even going into that...I think people are way overvaluing Vilma. He's a pretty good 4-3 LB, not dominant, but very good. 4-3 MLB's aren't exactly the hardest guys to find.
And you don't just give away former Pro Bowlers and DROY players who are only in their mid 20's for cheap.
