i pray to god taht vilma does NOT get traded. I would be so distraught if i see vilma go. He is a leader and still has a ton of potential. he will tear it up in detroit and ppl will just complain about trading him because Rogers won't be that great. He is out of shape and will not help our defense that much.

Really hoping this is for Roy Williams as opposed to Rogers. I want no part of him, and i would be shocked if Mangini does either. Personally I hope Vilma fails his physical tomorrow, but is ready to play on opening day. I think keeping Vilma is far more helpfull to the Jets if they keep him as opposed to trading him. But if he has to be traded, I want to see Roy Williams in green and white next season.

He should tear it up in Detroit...because they run a defense that he actually fits in.

The people that are going to complain are idiots. Vilma will never work out in New York. He doesn't fit the 3-4.

Get some football knowledge and then you'll find that there's nothing to complain about. Vilma is actually a weakness for this team when playing the 3-4.

Hopefully we're going to get as much as value as possible from the Lions for Vilma.

    Why is that exactly?

Roy Williams only has one 1,000 yard season. And a history of injuries. The dude makes some SPECTACULAR catches, but with the signing of Johnson and the emergence of McDonald and Furrey, he isn't indispensable. Plus he wants a trade.

Jonathan Vilma was a rookie of the year. He's had multiple 100 tackle seasons and has only recently had an issue with injury. He's proven he can be a top 10 MLB. Plus, he wants a trade.

So why is this not doable? Are you overrating Williams or underestimating Vilma?

If we get Rogers we can cut a trade with Rogers other suitor. Namely, trade Robertson to the Broncos for a 2nd round pick.

You're severely undervaluing the worth of a young proven 3T lineman to a team running a 4-3 without one on their roster.

He is proven, but that doesn't mean he warrants a 2nd round pick. Dewayne was only average, even when we played in the 4-3.

excellent point about roy williams. everyone is speculating about rogers but there may in fact be more to it than that.....

either way moving vilma is essential especially with harris in there....

isn't it just the jets luck that he is damaged goods at this point and won't demand more value.

vilma plus sims gives detroit a very nice package at LB.

if rogers does make his way in green its definitely an improvement but we still need a presence at DE and at LB.

OTOH imagine cotchery and roy williams - now that is a very nice pair to shoot with.

I'm not sure if DRob will go to Denver, but it seems like every year a contender loses a DT early. His contract is the speed bump here. Vilma's isn't as intimidating.

I want to see this deal get done with Vilma being traded for Rogers. I also think that Dewayne Robertson can play defensive end in this defense taking over for Kenyon Coleman, with Rogers playing nose tackle. I do not want to trade Robertson or give up on him yet. I listened to an interview with Mike Tannenbaum where he acknowledged that Dewayne Robertson is versatile enough to play defensive end in this defense. But Robertson's cap number is a problem, I just hope Mr. T can get it done.

If this is for a 3rd round pick only I'll personally murder Mangini/Tannenbaum.

Even for Rogers I dont much like this trade. What if Rogers comes here and doesnt feel like going hard every play? Turns into another big bust. He's not used to playing NT, he's NEVER played NT or had 2 gap responsibilities in his life.

Is Vilma really done here? Larry Foote (ILB Steelers) is only listed at 11 pounds heavier than Vilma and he's considered a pretty solid ILB. I dont think we're giving Vilma a fair shot till we bring a true NT in here. Also he could still add a few pounds to his frame.

edit: Also don't you think Bellichek would snatch him up to play ILB in his 3-4 in a second?

No shot of getting Vilma for Williams. Williams is D-town's top offensive weapon hands down, even w/ Calvin Johnson. Maybe 2 years ago, or even last year, but not after Vilma's recent injury. We'd be lucky to get a 2nd. Although you don't move him for lower than a high 3rd. As for Rodgers, I think he's a stud and would welcome him w/ open arms but I also doubt that with his drug and charachter history the Jets take a shot at him.

i know, i'm kinda exaggerating cuz vilma is my favorite player for the jets. But there's the thing. Who would the jets get to replace vilma. I think vilma and harris is definitely better than harris and barton. I think that opens up a pretty big need at ILB. And im questioning how good the trade will be for the jets and what kind of value the jets will get for vilma.

Take the pick. Rogers is on the decline and unmotivated.

By the way, this morning it was reported in the Detroit Free Press: "...Rogers still has some value to the team. There is nothing wrong with keeping him. The problem is building around him. Last year, the Lions did everything for Rogers but hand him cupcakes on a silver platter. They bent over backward for a player so overweight, he can't bend over forward. The idea was that if Rogers got whatever he wanted, he would have no excuses. Well, the Lions were right about one thing: Rogers had no excuses. But he disappeared in the second half of the season, largely because of his largeness.
By catering to Rogers, coach Rod Marinelli cost himself some credibility. Marinelli talked about football character and accountability. But then he let Rogers set up a country club in the middle of boot camp. By the end of the season, Kitna was complaining that "our boat is not very full." It was pretty clear that Rogers was not on the boat...."
