No you dont, he's lazy, fat, and took himself out of a the most important drive of the Lions season last year (against the Cowboys). Shaun Rogers has no heart what so ever.
I tend to agree. I understand he's not a nasty NT or anything but he's been pretty solid IMO. Unless we have a sure thing to replace him I'd rather see him in green and white. Don't get me wrong, I think a true 3-4 NT is a huge need for us. I don't get all the DRob hate. It must be because he was drafted so high.
I think if he restructures his contract we should keep him. In our system he's definitely not worth what we are paying him but at a lower price he could be a great role player in our system especially as a rookie NT develops.
Well yeah, he's not "Baby Sapp" like he was hyped to be. If he were a lower 1st round pick I don't think there'd be as much hate even as he doesn't fit our system now...but he was the 4th pick that we traded up for, of course it's hard to like a "decent" guy that costs so much. I wish he'd get a better shot somewhere else...
I remember Fat Teddy Cottrell doing a dance when we picked him. He's a good player, but he needs to play next to a space eater. His best years were when he played next to Fergie. It will be tough getting a 2 because of his knee.
everybody who thinks we get a 2nd for DRob is dreaming. There is so much talent in this draft at NT, you just pick one in the 2nd and hope you get a cheap, good DT. If we trade DRob, we won?t get more than a mid/late 3rd, maybe only a 4th. That beeing said, keep him around, he had some good games the last two years and i would like to see him at DE some time. We can get rid of DRob when we finally found our NT. Before that he?s the best we got.
I'm on the fence. We have no depth on the DL and Robertson while not a great player in the 3/4 is certainly a force at times. He is way over-paid for his production which is the real issue. I have a feeling he believes he is in the wrong system and will not play at a discount because he isn't as productive in the 3/4. This is one of those situations where he will force our hand by not restructuring. I doubt we can get great value under those conditions.
D-rob is our best dlineman, so since everyone is complaining how horrible our D-line has been, and are screaming for upgrades through FA and the draft, they want us to trade our BEST dlineman, for peanuts and then will be the people pissed that we traded him next season when our Dline gets even worse because we gave away d-rob, who right now is the best NT option we have.
I'm with you on being on the fence; do we hope Vilma goes to Denver in return for Walker and a pick? I brought this (Vilma to Denver) up a couple of weeks ago just as a hypothetical scenario. I agree that we keep Coles (proposed to take DJ Williams and Javon for Coles and Vilma) but Coles needs someone who either has to be doubled or demands more attention than Cotch and Brad Smith. Without a big distraction, teams can afford to stick their best guy on Coles and he needs more breathing room. But back to DRob, it's a toss up. Will it be a James Farrior situation where we deal him and then watch him explode on another team with more talent?
His $11.2 million figure consumes one-tenth of the team's cap. He's due to make $9.8 million this season - $6.8 million in base pay, plus a $3 million roster bonus (due in June). In five seasons, he has pocketed more than $26 million, a hefty price for 14-1/2 sacks. He's signed through 2009. Let's hope those reports of Shaun Rogers are untrue and aim to get that 2nd round pick from Denver.
Shit...man one thing is for sure; if we do deal him we'd have to make some SERIOUS moves with the cap room. But who the phuck knows. We recently picked up Hawkins who was drafted in 1950.
What's being said on Denver's message board about Rogers and DRob... “Is Rogers the man to complement Elvis? Elvis is young fast and strong, is it worth a 2 to complement him with a fat lazy bum? Somebody has to complement Elvis and fast before he's worn out. You tell me, because I don't know. I'm pretty sure it isn't Rogers. That bum ain't worth crap at 5280.” “Rogers is a ultra talented DT but we've gone this route, countless times already and it has hardly ever worked. Maybe only Gerard Warren, and we then traded him away. Shaun is fat, lazy, and he's looking for a fresh scenery to sour on. PASS on this, PLEASE GOD. If we are to make a move, pick up Robertson. The guy seems like he works hard, stays in shape and is just starting to produce more. Teaming a young, inspired, talented player like him IS what this defense needs... not a bad apple like Rogers.” “This trade has disaster written all over it. Why not just trade for Robertson? The Jets need a CB as well so Foxworth could be in play there.” “According to http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl.php Detroits DL was DEAD LAST in the league when defending the run up the middle. Yes, right where Rogers makes a living. Yes even worse than Denver. There's a genuine reason why most teams in the league aren't even interested in looking at this guy. This sack of sh*t has made a career and millions of dollars from living off of occasional hype plays where he flashes rare ability once in a while followed up by chunks of crappy play. Gimme a guy like Robertson who's been playing out of position, is much younger, hasn't been suspended and has less character issues. In the very least he'll be grateful to be playing in a defense where he isn't forced to play a NT in a 3-4. That alone will allow the guy to play with more heart. I understand Shanahan is passionate about improving the DL but Shanahan is the last guy who's opinion I value when it comes to scouting DL talent. My only hope is that some other desperate team allows themselves to be reamed by Millen so that we're out of the running.”
If Vilma and D-Rob both go, as is widely believed, and both succeed in 4-3 defenses, Mangini should be fired at season's end. You coach the players you have to get the most out of them. Mangini's insistance in pounding a round peg into a square hole has been a disaster from day one.
If Shaun Rogers goes to Denver then Mike Shanahan is going to be my surprise prediction for coach to leave after a long reign in next season's predictions. I got Cowher right in pre-season 2006 and I got Billick right in pre-season 2007.
I agree and am curious how he'd do at DE in the 3-4 I think he's athletic enough to get at QB in that slot, and certainly big enough to bulk up line at run support, and versatile enough to still get in at NT as needed. I like Rubin a lot in the draft. Think he may be worth our #2, but need more info. People say DRob not big enough, but is similar in size to Rubin. I'd like to see DRob and Rubin in Jet uniforms for 08.
The problem with Robertson is that he's short with short arms on top of that. He'll never be big enough, or happy for that matter, to play a 3-4 NT, and his measurables make him a bad fit at 3-4 DE as well.
