Lets hope Tannenbaum and Mangini will overcome the Jets poor drafting history over the last five years when Bradway and his college scouts went overboard on potential vs productivity. This league source also hit the nail on the head about Patrick Ramsey at the end of the article.

    From PFT:
    POSTED 4:45 a.m. EST; UPDATED 5:42 a.m. EST, March 28, 2006

    CUTLER HEADED FOR A FALL?
Over the past few months, we've offered up opinions from various league sources regarding a potential draft-day free fall for quarterbacks Matt Leinart and Vince Young.
We're now hearing that Jay Cutler could be the one who ends up sliding.
Of course, this is the season of misinformation in the NFL. Some teams will hype a guy in the hopes that a franchise selecting in front of them will draft him. Other teams will knock a guy in the hopes that he'll fall to them.

But as to the insights we've recently picked up regarding the assessment of the three quarterbacks projected to be taken in round one of the draft, we're persuaded that the source has no horse in the race -- making his observations far more credible.

The question of when Leinart, Young, and Cutler will be drafted depends in large part on the structure of the teams assessing the picks. "Teams that have a strong G.M. and personnel department draft based on production and value," said the source. "When a coach has more to do with the final say, then they seem to go more on workouts. Scouts spend about eleven months going over the players in their area, finding out about character, work habits, coachability, etc., only to get nudged out by a coach who has worked part time for two months on the same thing and then seems to have all the answers."
But what about the buzz surrounding Cutler?

"I have read over and over the last few months that Leinart and Young have dropped and Cutler has risen in scouts eyes," said the source. "What a joke. What has Cutler ever won? He never had a winning season at Vandy. He lost six games in a row this year. Looked very average at the Senior Bowl and very average at the combine, yet people seem to think he should be drafted in the top ten. Why? Because he has a strong arm?

"Let's see, Leinart and Young have won three national titles between them, have great stats, are very strong leaders, won a ton of games, have solid character and they aren't as good as Cutler who lost six games this year alone and never had a winning season? I thought that a real good quarterback was supposed to make his team better and lead them to wins."

So has Young overcome the hit that he took based on reports of a low Wonderlic score?
"All that sh-t about his test score is bogus," said the source. "He could not have done what he has done at Texas if he was real dumb.
"You mentioned that Young's stock rose after his workout last week. Well, a good scouting dept should have had him near the top of their board all along. All he has done is win. If a team is interested, they will bring him in, get him on board with their offensive staff, and find out how good his aptitude for football is. They will find out that he has a very strong passion for the game and is football smart."

Where, then, should Cutler land? "He doesn't deserve to go in the first round," said the source. "He is not anywhere as good as Patrick Ramsey was four years ago. He went at 31 and has been a bust."

    Yikes.

Don't expect this debate to die down. After all, there are plenty of teams with coaches who have a lot of say in the draft process, giving Cutler's workout results greater weight in those cities. And when Leinart, who isn't a big T-shirt-and-shorts guy, has what likely will be received as an average workout on April 2, look for the opinions and projections to continue to conflict and jumble.

Great, you continue to be a troll and bring up negative things time and time again. Do you think any one here doesn't know that Ramsey has been a bust? Is it possible that the situation he was in with the Redskins made that worse? Is it possible that with good coaching and patience and an offense built for his assets he could be a decent starting qb in the NFL?

Im not saying that Ramsey is the answer to our Qb problems, but I do think that he never got a real chance to show what he can do uner Joe Gibbs and his offense, which he doesnt even call the plays for anymore.

Brees was labeled a "bust" after two years in the NFL I believe...if we add some weapons to our offense I think Ramsey could be good...

Who the heck are you to call anyone a troll. I've been a Jet fan since 1960 when I went to games at the Polo Grounds. Woody Johnson is a worse owner than Leon Hess and has made a monumental mistake in hiring two inexperienced and unqualified adolescents to bring the Jets a Super Bowl. That's my opinion and I'll be happy the day Woody Johson sells the team. The fish rots from the head and Woody Johnson is ruining the future of this franchise by his ineptness. I'll be happy to point out the errors of the Mangina Chronicles and they've already supplied me with plenty of ammunition, from the new coaches (including Mangini) none of whom ever had an interview with any other team and the free agent signings, same story with Tim Dwight the only signing who any other team showed the slightest interest in. My Jets are the laughingstock of the league and a year from now a lot more Jet fans, at least those who survive the flight to Jonestown and the drinking of the green Kool Aid will be calling for the end of the Mangina Chronicles.

I watched the Rose Bowl again last night. I was reminded how strong Young's passing was. He threw with velocity and into tight spots, unlike so many have claimed. He was 13 of 15 in the first half and finished 30 of 40. Quite honestly, Leinart had a good game but did not look nearly as strong and crisp with his passes. Some of them sailed, and a critical one was short-armed late in the game, stopping the clock and setting up 4th and 2.

One note on Young - there is a rumor that his interview with the Titans did not go well because his uncle was present and went on and on about money. Again, just a rumor. Wasn't Young supposed to work out for the Jets yesterday?

So if you hate Woody and Mangini so much I want to hear why.

Why is Mangini not a good coach?

Would you have preferred we keep Herm?

What has Woody done that is so bad?

Of the following moves which ones didn't you like and why?
    1) Hiring Mangini
    2) Giving Tannenbaum the GM title and letting Bradway be a scout
    3) Restructuring Pennington's contract
    4) Kimo von Oelhoffen
    5) Tim Dwight
    6) Trading a 6th round pick for a potential starting qb
    7) Michael Warren
    8) Monsanto Pope

Also I'd like to know what you would have done differently if you were in charge.

Mangini has 3 superbowl rings and Tannanbaum has been with the Jets FO since the Parcells days. Since when does age = qualification? You are a troll.

I'd rather give these two "inexperienced and unqualified adolescents" a shot than drag in another recycled has-been like so many other teams do. They do it because it's the "safe" choice and it won't bring admonition. Trouble is, it won't bring success either. Kudos to Woody for taking a shot. At least he got rid of Herm and diminished Bradway's role and in so doing, gives us a chance to let these two young, hard-working guys build a winning team.

He was making fun of the jets situation because we supposed to made fun of his team last last year .. when we were 5-0

I think it's early to be killing the front office over anything yet. All the moves seem to be cosmetic at this point. The guys we brought in are at best stop gap or cannon foder. The Abe deal you can argue either way, I thought they got as much as they could for him? Clearly we haven't done much in FA to date. About all you can say so far to the positive is they have kept their intentions unknown.

Out side of the fact that were all guessing and speculating what these guys are going to do, it's just as reasonable to look at them as inexperienced boobs as it is to look at them as some young geniuses who are going to right the ship. We probably won't know much until the end of year two one way or another.

You want to kill these guys today it's probably just as reasonable as praising them today.

If you hate the Jets so bad why are you a fan? Or for that matter why are you on a message board wasting away your life hating on a team that you have followed for 46 years, you sound like a Boston Red Sox fan. And as stated by Row 5, I am glad that we gave a new coach a chance instead of getting some numb nut that has been fired from every team that he has been on.

I'm not even sure what rajensen088's point is. Cutler is overrated, ok, most of us knew that. He isn't as good as Ramsey who is 10-17 as a starter, ok, so what? Ramsey has 1 year left on his contract and was brought in as a
6th round insurance policy in case Pennington can't hold up. I don't think he will bloom into a great starter, but I think the Front Office was justified in bringing him in. What is the point raj?
