I thought they looked good right up until I got to the part about the Jets. The description is fine but the biggest concern and the breakout player both make no sense. http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/Commentary/Columns/2008/sohn021308.htm
Yich. The Jets are probably 27 or 28 right now not 23. Brad Smith unfortunately does not have the hands to be a great receiver. I might be wrong on that but I don't think so based on what we saw on the field last season. The defense? Same thing people were writing about the Jets after the 2006 season. Same reason too, schedule quality dropped off in the second half of the season and the Jets started blitzing against tired offensive lines.
Doesn't matter where they are now, though. The team in September will hopefully be significantly different. All this rank shows is how we did last year. Which was badly.
Brad Smith is nice but I think Leon is our breakout player (at RB, not KR). D-line tailored to the 3-4, however, has to be our biggest concern.
O-line and interior D-line, but yeah I agree with you. If the Jets cannot function offensively it just doesn't matter what else happens, they're going to lose. Right now they have the worst set of guards I've ever see on a Jet's team and I think the tackles are probably close to, if not the worst tandem ever also.
LT A.Jones and RT J.Fabini was by far a worse combo. I think RT and LG MUST be new guys with a lot of talent next year, or we're screwed.
for those of you who may have missed the movie 'sophie's choice' (referenced in the opening post) a sophie had to decide which child to keep and which child to surrender to the germans for certain death in the natzi concentration camps. it was a tough call for sophie, but not as tough as deciding which line to fix first.
^^ man what's up with your avatar? What is it... it really grosses me out whenever I see it. anyway: Finally nice to see some real love. I do think Abram Elam's got some game.
"Darrelle Revis and Kerry Rhodes are certifiable ballers." Probably the best article of all time, because of this quote.
I think the ranking is good. The way the NFL is, free agency and the draft, an easier schedule, hopefully a healthy team, the Jets could return to the playoffs in 2008. Not that far fetched in my opinion.
A few issues there.... #1) We are NOT the 23rd best team in the league.... I'd put us at #26 tops, but I think that may be pushing it.... We have potential to improve, but as of this moment, we're God awful... #2) Abram Elam does not 'have some game'.... I don't even want to get into that.... The guy is terrible... #3) They're right about the OL and DL being out biggest issues of concern, but the OL is a MUCH bigger concern than the D-line, as the future of our FRANCHISE depends on whether or not we can add a legitimate LG and RT and get some improvement out of our young OL talent. If we do not, the young careers of Kellen Clemens, Jericho Cotchery, Leon Washington, Chris Baker and company may be wasted. #4) Brad Smith as our break out player? There are at least five guys on the roster I'd take over him as far as potential for improvement goes. D'Brickashaw comes to mind, as do Harris, Revis, Poteat, Miller and others....
Abram Elam can hit well and can't cover worth a crap. Basically, he's Justin Miller in a different uniform.
I dont agree with that. I think he has coverage ability but he needs some more discipline. He is very fast.
God I hope not. The Jets aren't tight on cap space, but neither are a lot of other teams. The Phins have 40 million + after releasing some players, and there's more to come. I hope our number shoots up like there's did after we start dropping the dead weight. The Phins will be running a full time 3-4 from what I've read. Competition within the division for the players that are the right fit is even tougher now. Parcels gives them instant credibility, they have plenty of $$, and the weather in Florida kicks ass. I hope Manginabaum doesn't sit on it's hands when free agency starts. I'd hate too see them all dressed up with nowhere to go.
It's ok, they have one offseason at this point to demonstrate that they understand competitive NFL management. Another bad offseason will lead to another bad season will lead to a new regime.
I dont think he's justin miller at all. Elam is way more ferocious with the hits Justin Miller is just faster and much more athletic. Elam has more of a feel for the game though too I would venture to say.
