Curt Gowdy died today of cancer. He once said that calling Super Bowl III was the greatest "event" in his long broadcasting career.

That's a damn stupid thing to say in a thread like this. RIP Mr. Gowdy.

I feel badly for Curt. Not that there's a good way to die, but leukemia is a terrible way to go out.

Gowdy was the best!!! I watched a bit my tape of SB III last night just to hear his voice....he called the games like you're suppose to....Not like that John Sterling idiot.

On a side note. Al Derogatis who did SB III with Gowdy and a former NY Giant was a personal friend of the family....He died in 1991, I think... In 1986 (I was 16) he gave me a picture of him and Gowdy at SB III, standing on the field with Weeb. My Dad has it behind the bar with his Sack Exchange signed foootball.
