Suggs had 5 sacks last year. The only thing he proved is that his sacks went down without Adalius Thomas on the other side. Hell, even David Harris had 5 sacks last year as an ILB.
Baltimore's system changed and Sugg's tackles went up. Suggs is an extremely talented player and is a better fit for our system than say... Jonathan Vilma. WAY better than Bryan Thomas in every regard. Suggs would fit our system perfectly and would be well worth giving up a 2nd round pick for. Out of everyone available in FA, with the exception of Randy Moss, Terrell Suggs is the closest thing to a "franchise" player out there.
True-ish. I watched alot of Suggs last year (he and Ware are my favorite non-Jets) and he looked like a completely different player. Part of this is because they did drop him back in coverage more often, kind of like what happened to Bryan Thomas for us this year. Still, when he was blitzed he wasn't impressive at all. The loss of Thomas and Pryce (injuries) really hurt him, because with those two gone Suggs became the only pass rusher teams had to worry about. The Ravens went from a team total of 60 sacks in '06 to 39 last season. Teams keyed in on Suggs and he couldn't handle it. I'm hot and cold on Suggs lately. Sometimes I remember that his best pass rushing seasons came when he LOLB was in Mike Nolan's 3-4. I saw him alot at RE and ROLB last year, and he's played way more at end in Ryan's defense. I also think he's become a more complete player as he's gained experience. But last year he looked slower and less explosive than usual. He didn't look lost on the field or anything, just ineffective. I do think Suggs would compliment BT perfectly, since he's better at LOLB and BT's better at ROLB. But Suggs has had alot of great talent playing along with him. That had to affect him some, because his worst season just happened when some of that great talent got injured or didn't play for the team anymore.
I don't think the Ravens are trading Suggs. Ray Lewis is getting up there, and you don't give up 25 year old defensive play makers for second round picks. Even if he's coming off a down year, he's your youngest impact player on defense, and you've got to keep him. I think that team just needs a makeover. They're not as far away as they look. I don't like the idea of giving as much money to cornerbacks as the league continues to do, but I think we need to sign one or invest an early pick in one. Whether it's Trufant or Samuel, we need someone to play opposite Revis in a division with the Patriots. -X-
I thought about this guy too, but for some reason I can see him ending up like that dude from Minnesota, his name escapes me, that we signed a years ago. Was it Matthew Hatchette, he sucked.
Wtf? Wheres the logic in that? Dyson "didn't work out" because he was injured most of this season. Last season he was our best corner and a pretty good one. I think Trufant's a much better man corner than Samuels is. Samuel's main attraction to us in the rumor pages is that he's a Pat so he instantly fits us. I'd much rather have Trufant or Asomugha.
I'm not a huge fan of Bryant Johnson, but I have mentioned in other threads that he runs his pass routes very well.... and IMO this is a big need for the Jets offense. Think Wes Welker for the Patriots, that's the type of threat I would like to see for our offense. Cotchery and Coles are physical WR's, who are not adept at separation from the defensive backs when running routes. Yes they both are very good at YAC, primarily when they use their physical nature to break a tackle, but neither are true route runners... We need a WR that can shake loose from a DB...Not out run him on a fly pattern - if that was the case Johnathan Carter would still be on this team - but a WR that when comes out of his break has a step on the DB and adds to it with his speed. Although not very fast Chrebet was VERY good at doing this, especially when running routes over the middle. Chauncey Stuckey could be that type of player - but that remains an IF especially with his foot injury. Patrick Crayton from Dallas fits the mold of the WR I decribe, but Dallas will almost assuredly lock him up. Can we fill this need in the Draft??? If Manningham is there in the 2nd round, he fits the mold of the WR I describe to perfection. Hardy from Indiana? I'm not sure, didn't see him play. Limas Sweed? Maybe - not sure if he has the courage to go over the middle. Roy Williams from Detroit plays this role to perfection...Is he avaialble via trade? Maybe? Could cost us Vilma and a 3rd OR 4th rounder....
Matthew Hachette....man that guy was AWESOME!!! I think its the Keyshawn curse that we've never had a decent tall receiver again...seriously, has that never been OFF the offseason wishlist????
