Jim Zorn hired as Washington Redskins coach By Joseph White, AP Sports Writer WASHINGTON ? The Washington Redskins hired Jim Zorn as their coach Saturday night, a surprise ending to a monthlong search for a replacement for Joe Gibbs, The Associated Press has learned. Zorn will be introduced at a news conference at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a person who was informed of the Redskins' decision. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not been made. Zorn, a former Seattle quarterback, has been the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach for the last seven years. The Redskins hired him to be their offensive coordinator on Jan. 26 while continuing their search for a head coach.
so Zorn is going from QB coach to Head Coach? Oh boy... the Skins are in serious trouble next year lol
Last August you wrote that Tom Coughlin was going to be a problem for the Giants. Look how that turned out. Let the record show, I also thought Coughlin was going to have trouble, just from what was written and said. My point is the following. We don't know. Zorn might be good, he might be bad. If we knew this stuff, we'd all be rich after betting on this shit in Las Vegas.
Zorn is a taking a team who lost a loved teammate and was beginning to blossom as a team in Gibbs' system to a team that has to start from scratch once more and learn an entirely new system... This team is going to have problems.. Plus they play in the Hall of Fame game- which takes away from preparing for the season. They wont be ready.
That could be true, but in the 2000s nine of the 16 teams that played in Hall of Fame games would go on to qualify for the playoffs that year. One of the teams that did not was the 2002 expansion Texans.
At least you can't criticize Snyder for spending money on his team. How much he spends and who he spends it on is another story.
Well Herm Edwards went from DB coach to HC with us, and, despite how inept he seemed, the results really weren't too bad... Mangini was a DB coach prior to his one year as D Coordinator (their worst defensive year statistically since their dynasty began) and people here still think he's going to be great.... (I don't, but that's another debate) The point is, just because someone was never a coordinator does not mean he is a bad choice as a HC
now as you just pointed out Beamen, coaches can jump from a positional coach straight to a HC job, and find some success. Now Herm Edwards was not my favorite candidate, but i will agree he found a way to motivate the Jets teams he had to play the best they were capable of. Mangini is not the guy i was looking for, i remember i never even considered him an option because he didnt have enough experience to take up a HC job. Now this board was the only place that had me even remotely confident that he could do a capable job right after his hire. And low and behold we went 10-6 in the year we were supposed to go 4-12. Also i think that one year of coordinator experience is way better than none, do i think it is enough experience to jump to a HC job? nope i would prefer 3 plus. Now to the poster who qouted me as saying the Giants no longer wanted Coughlin, what part of that statement is supposed to be incorrect? I honestly think the Giants organization was pissed off that Coughlin drove Tiki out of town, and that they didnt think Coughlin could coach a team to the big game, much less win it. Just because that's exactly what happened doesnt change the opinion that many Giants fans had at the end of the 06 season. And I really did believe that the Giants only kept Coughlin as a holdover, and they were going to try and get Cowher out of retirement. I have no proof of this but I am sure after so many fans called for Coughlin's head at the end of the 06 season, there was a serious uproar through the first 52 minutes of game three of the season. my dad being a giants fan, all be it not exactly a hardcore guy, didnt think coughlin would make it to week 6 if they started 2-4. while that is likely not true, it is not unheard of for coaches to be dismissed mid-season.
That is the part that is crazy to me. A Seahawks player most of his career, gets a job as the QB coach for 7 years, isn't good enough and gets fired, then all of a sudden becomes the head coach of the Washington Redskins? Good stuff.
Yeah you can't take any numbers at face value in sports anymore. Contracts years, player salarys, home runs and batting averages. Everything is inflated.
The Skins are 21 million over the cap. DOes that Snyder a better owner then Woody? Please, that does not make Woody seem cheaper, that makes him look smarter for listening to his football people and sticking to a plan.
