Yeah but as always... many good ideas and not so many people, if any, willing to turn ideas into reality
I hear you. Well, if I'm up that way I'll be sure to bring my digital camera. I live a 1/2 hour south of the new stadium and about 45 minutes southeast of the new Training Complex.
Wait. Off-topic, but the Jets are going to be practicing in Hofstra for this upcoming season? I thought the move was 2008, not 2009? I hope they are practicing at Hofstra for Training Camp. I never got the chance to go this season, but I'm def. going to go this upcoming season if they are still there. The drive to NJ wouldn't go over well with my dad, who would be going with me.
I go by there once in a while, the beginning of the structure is there. I went by two weeks ago, it didn't look too much further along than it did the day of the Chiefs game. It will be better for us, no more Giants Stadium all red and blue, that was the main issue. We do have 25 years of history there now, once the stadium itself is neutral I don't see a problem with it. Really that's the only thing wrong with the current stadium. Change the name and put in a green level of seats and I'd be ok with it.
I remember hearing the younger Mara (Beef Wellington Jr?) on Mike and Chris stating that the stadium was ahead of schedule. I don't think it means that it will be finished by the start of the 2009 season, but what if it's done late in the 09 season? Could we play maybe 6 home games at the Giants toilet bowl, then switch over to the new place for the end of 2009?
I doubt it. They will probably have to knock down Giants Stadium and clean it up to make parking out of it first.
The Training Camp move to Jersey is currently scheduled for the summer of '09, that's if the new facility is finished by then. Accordingly, next summer's TC will still take place at Hofstra, so you have at least one more year (and probably only one more year) on Long Island in which to attend TC.
Giants Stadium won't be torn down until the new stadium is finished, unless the schedule looks like it permits demolition of the old stadium. And yes, the land Giants Stadium currently sits on will become part of the parking lot. It doesn't necessarily have to take place in that exact order, however. If it becomes obvious in the spring of 2010 that the new stadium will definitely be ready for the first of the preseason games in August, there's no reason why Giants Stadium can't be torn down that spring and paved over in anticipation of the grand opening of the new stadium. It looks like Xanadu will be ahead of schedule too. In fact, it'll probably be done and awaiting the opening of the new stadium.
If the new stadium is all about money, then why don't they put a damn dome on it so we can get the superbowl. I mean that brings in plenty of money in only the biggest city in the world.
They are going cheap on the stadium and 2 TEAMS are paying for it. You know Jerry Jones is going to build state of the art, most awesome stadium in the NFL. Why can't the Jets/Giants collaborate to make an incredible stadium.
The Jets and Giants are too dam cheap thats why, once Woody lost the West Side Stadium he went into super cheap mode, the Giants were just going to renovate Giants Stadium until the Jets got screwed out of Manhatten, so the two cheapscates got together and came up with this stadium plan. If the lousy Cardinals and Lions can build stadiums with retractable roofs, why can't two NY teams? Because they are cheap. The Cowboys stadium is going to put ours to shame I'm afraid, it sure looks a hell of a lot nicer from it's pics. Whatever, I'm just happy to get out of Giants Stadium.
I will go and see them blow up giants stadium. I love watching them demo those stadiums on tv its something I want to see in person
They said this about Giants Stadium over 30 years ago as a selling point. It never came to pass, of course, because the Giants never wanted it. Same thing now. You're not "a man" unless you expose yourself, your opponent and all your fans to a good sleet storm now and then. Okay, no problem, I can sit and freeze my ass off with the best of them, but then I ask myself, "Why do we need a new stadium then at all?" If the answer is they can add more skyboxes, they've already done that on the south side in 1996-1997 (above the Stadium Club entrance). They could always do the same thing on the north side (above the Jets bench), only larger. Hell, put some more in the end zones as cheaper skyboxes, you'll still fill them. I just don't get it. These are supposed to be extremely intelligent businessmen with innovative ideas and vast amounts of input and resources. So the best they come up with is to build a new stadium that's basically the same as the old one (no roof) with the exception of having 4,000 more seats? For the investment, there's really not that much more in return. Hell, keep the stadium we've got, freeze my ticket prices and I'll sit there and freeze my ass off in the old one like I do year after year anyway.
Why can't you? Ticket prices have increased 20% per year for the past 5 years, an outrageous increase for no reason whatsoever. You think the bean counters that came up with that one are afraid to announce a PSL because it's too outrageous? Nothing is too outrageous in the NFL when it comes to ripping off the fans. So no, I don't see that as the main reason why both teams have decided to build a new stadium that is basically not much different than the old one. I do see as the main reason a couple of teams that boistrously tried to out-do one another at the time of the WSS fiasco, announcing they would each build a fantastic new stadium and spend tons of money on "state of the art" individual stadiums as now having to save face. The only problem is, now that they have no choice but to announce a new joint stadium in lieu of their original boasts of independent stadiums, they've gone the other way and gone cheapo on the project. Now it's all about saving money and not putting a roof on it because it's "too expensive." How completely assinine and short sighted. A stadium with a slider would attract SBs, final fours, soccer events, concerts, you name it... all within a 15-minute train ride from downtown Manhatten. These f*cking guys should have their collective heads examined.
Jets wanted the roof. Giants did not. a/f/a the luxury box thing, corporations want luxury boxes that offer good views of the game. Think US Open tennis. The current sky boxes are way up in heaven. So with the new stadium, they'll be able to build a lot more of them, plus now that they are way down low probably charge double or triple than what they are charging now.
Football is supposed to be played outdoors. If it was up to me I would get rid of the dome in all NFL cities and make every team play outdoors.
